That looks about right to me. Cards may leave a spot or two open for adding a player or two from the pool of players available today.

Mautz, Bernal, Baez, Hjerpe according to redbird rants.

What’s really surprising is that there hasn’t been a lot of movement yet by any teams, especially the Cardinals, leading up to this deadline! Don’t know if Bloom is trying to make last minute trades, or releases if nothing transpires, or what. Just seems kinda odd, but I guess we’ll see. I can’t see them keeping certain players on the 40 man that are currently on there. Especially over some young players that probably need protected!

I haven't seen any posters mention Miguel Ugueto in this rule 5 thread.

I think he is rule 5 eligible and has shown some promise in the AFL this fall.
Makes hard contact and good bat to ball skills. 60 ABs, .350 BA, 16 RBIs

swing first, ask questions later...Under 4% walk rate. Singles hitter. And here's the big negative: he can't stay on the field...he plows into the wall with reckless abandon constantly....never had a full season of games...NEVER. Has missed too much time each year.

Love the contact, I do...love the effort in the OF...but I'd roll the dice on not protecting him...we selected him in the AAA R5 draft last year...stuck him AA. The Red Sox didn't think he was worth protecting either.

Will Cardinals protect Pete Hansen in Rule 5 draft ?

Nobody seems to be talking about this 'unranked prospect in Cardinals system .

Thought I would post it here since he seems to be out of most conversations.

With the Cardinals, apparently, in a rebuild, low spending mode. It wouldn't surprise me if Bloom claims a Rule 5 player.

GM's usually claim multiple Rule 5 players....we claimed 5 last year? Maybe it was 4.

Rebuild and Low Spending Mode aren't the reasons for selecting a player.

picking someone in the minor league portion of the draft is common for the Cards.

It wouldn’t surprise him if Bloom does something that the Cardinals did last year (Minor League phase) and the year before (Fernandez) . . .

yep...I can see it. He just learned about the RULE 5 Draft a few days ago. ::crazya::

Also, on a serious note, I wouldn't be shocked if he 40man's Blaze Jordan and starts in St. Louis...whether he's ready or not. I think we'll need the cheapest form of warm bodies for the lineup this year. RHB, a little power potential (even though the EV wasn't there when I saw him...at least not where you'd want the EV's to be ...north of 100mph with the ball in the air).

I feel there is a good chance Bloom will take a chance on a player that he feels can help the Cardinals next season. A don't believe there would be much cost involved. The only thing is the roster spot.

Agree Bloom no doubt Bloom had input and was a big reason he was traded for last season I doubt he would think enough of him to want him in the trade just let him go in the rule 5 draft
