Right now he's the only RH bat in the lineup you can count on for any real production.
So wanting to trade him makes no sense.
Some of these OPs need work.
One must remember this, the ‘right now he’s the only ….
is not Bloom ‘s priority.
Bloom is thinking the long term not ‘right now’ .
If he was, then he would not be seeking offers for Donovan and our best pitcher Sonny Gray.
Bloom may not trade Contreras but based on what has been said by both Contreras and Bloom the topic has been discussed.
And one must remember that you still have to field a lineup and protection in that lineup for Wetherholt, Gorman, Burleson or other LH batters.
He's not going anywhere.
1. The cards can field a lineup without WC.
2. Bloom may hang onto WC for now, but if he does, it will have little to do w protecting players in a lineup.
While we have heard nothing yet regarding shipping WC, it is a relevant topic and it might happen.
Lastly, who knows what the return will be, but it will be decent. And save a minimum 20mil in payroll.
Sure they can field a lineup who says they can't?
And you know lineup construction how?
Its a good idea to have veterans around who might want to be here and lead by example.
Its part of the maturation process for the Wetherholts, Winns, Scott's, etc.
A cards lineup can survive without WC.
And who knows what vets will be signed?

No retaliation is his concern dumb[ash].
He deliberately gets hit by pitch and then wants his teammates to retaliate.

We can count on Herrera for real production.
How many games did he miss last season.
If the powers that be are determined that he be the number one catcher what will that do to his production?
WC has missed his share of time with injuries too. They are part of the game.
I’ve not heard a whisper from the powers that be regarding who our catchers will be in 2026, much less who will be the #1 catcher.

There was at least one thread here mentioning management wanted Herrera to catch.
If so that will definitely affect his production. That's also part of the game.

He Doesn't spin away. a pitch inside he lets it hit his elbow pad. In Chicago he called out his teammates too. He also tripped a runner at first base and then wanted to fight.
He's a distraction. Move him for a ballplayer.

Yes, he called out his pitchers/team for not having his back. That's leadership. I guess you like the simps like Nado and Oldy ...

One of the biggest mistakes they made last offseason in trying to trade Arenado was they talked too much. Not only does it not help you with other teams, it seems like (especially in this case) it might not help you with the player. Contreras seems to be a little sensitive and would probably feel disrespected by being publicly shopped. If they want to trade him and get his blessing, the best thing they can do is quietly find a trade partner and ask for his approval.

This argument has two sides:
A decade of teammates who love him vs. you
hmm...

I remember reading that CT thread also. I don’t recall reading it or hearing it anywhere else though. I’m not going to wring my hands over Cards Talk hypothetical conjecture. We’ve got a lot of good choices at catcher. Spring training competition should be fun. I think 1B may be IH’s best position.

Putting him back as number one catcher would be a mistake .
If thats what happens I could care less.
It wouldn't be the first time this organization has miscast a player.
I like his bat but not behind the plate.

Agreed. IH is the worst of the bunch behind the plate. Unless they can coach him up a bunch, I don’t see him emerging as our #1.

I hope Willy C is back at 1b next year. One of the very few who has some fire. He is a middle order bat on this team. And he plays a pretty good 1b.
As for Herrera, he needs to be the DH or in LF. Hes terrible behind the plate. And I dont think he'd be very good at 3b.

Nope. Hes a gamer. Only one in the team.
He's who you want with you in a fight
