Been quiet on Contreras .. Might he be moved this winter ?

Re: Been quiet on Contreras .. Might he be moved this winter ?
Counting the '28 buyout Contreras has a 2/41.5 contract for his age 34-35 seasons. Not a bad contract, but if he were a FA signing a two year deal I'd guess the figure would be closer to 30. So they may either need to eat cash or toss in a prospect to get someone to bite. That and the fact Contreras loves it in St. Louis makes a trade unlikely.

Right now he's the only RH bat in the lineup you can count on for any real production.
So wanting to trade him makes no sense.
Some of these OPs need work.

That settles it. He's as good as gone.Melville wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 12:44 pmBoth.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 11:41 amthe only leader on the team...he staysrockondlouie wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 11:36 am WillyC is going nowhere (IMO).
He loves it here and has made it clear, even though he'd "listen", he wants to stay and help the kids w/the re-build.
I hope he stays!
Spot.
On.
Only an idiot would trade him this off-season.
We shall soon see if Blom is one.
It's a trifecta

is not Bloom ‘s priority.
Bloom is thinking the long term not ‘right now’ .
If he was, then he would not be seeking offers for Donovan and our best pitcher Sonny Gray.
Bloom may not trade Contreras but based on what has been said by both Contreras and Bloom the topic has been discussed.

And one must remember that you still have to field a lineup and protection in that lineup for Wetherholt, Gorman, Burleson or other LH batters.ramfandan wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 18:22 pmOne must remember this, the ‘right now he’s the only ….11WSChamps wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 17:18 pm Right now he's the only RH bat in the lineup you can count on for any real production.

In my opinion, it’s a better than 50% chance he gets moved! San Diego is a likely landing spot. Again, just my opinion.

Re: Been quiet on Contreras .. Might he be moved this winter ?
It just seemed like you were stating it as pretty much fact, and that there was no need to question the point.
I think Willson has worn out his welcome with the Cardinals and they want him gone, but they aren’t going to come out and say it.
I guess we’ll see soon enough.

1. The cards can field a lineup without WC.11WSChamps wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 19:07 pmAnd one must remember that you still have to field a lineup and protection in that lineup for Wetherholt, Gorman, Burleson or other LH batters.ramfandan wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 18:22 pmOne must remember this, the ‘right now he’s the only ….11WSChamps wrote: ↑15 Nov 2025 17:18 pm Right now he's the only RH bat in the lineup you can count on for any real production.

2. Bloom may hang onto WC for now, but if he does, it will have little to do w protecting players in a lineup.
While we have heard nothing yet regarding shipping WC, it is a relevant topic and it might happen.
Lastly, who knows what the return will be, but it will be decent. And save a minimum 20mil in payroll.

And you know lineup construction how?
Its a good idea to have veterans around who might want to be here and lead by example.
Its part of the maturation process for the Wetherholts, Winns, Scott's, etc.

If the powers that be are determined that he be the number one catcher what will that do to his production?

Re: Been quiet on Contreras .. Might he be moved this winter ?
Contreras should be moved.
Nado should be moved.
Gorman should be moved.
You literally have ready replacements for the first two.
Gorman is irreplaceable as he is a unicorn.
Although his strikeouts could be easily replaced.
