A corner outfielder, DH, maybe a 3B seems like the most logical potential fits. Bloom likely needs to make a savvy trade to acquire that player. A difference-maker FA may be too expensive for the budget.
Mo tried that with the wife beater from the Marlins and we all saw how that turned out. We lost two top starters in that deal. If it had worked out for the Cards though it would have been hailed as a great move.

You gotta name. Where are these studs. Most are contracted. Takes a trade. Not happening.
Just a couple FA ‘s. Too expensive. So I ask, by name, who are these studs.
Colby Thomas (Athletics) plays both corner outfield spots. In the majors, blocked from regular playing time. Power like Gorman, K's like Gorman, much faster than Gorman. Right handed hitter.
Coby Mayo (Orioles) plays 1B-3B. In the majors, will be blocked by Westburg at 3B and by Samuel Basallo and Ryan Mountcastle at 1B. Every bit as much potential as Walker, has stunk every bit as much as Walker so far. Right handed hitter.
(My favorite target) Josue Briceno (TIgers). Currently at AA, possibly promoted in the spring? A C/1B. Not a good catcher, so a 1B. This past season he hit 20 HR with a .883 OPS. In fact, 43% of his hits were for extra bases. Strikeout rate of 20%. Lots of walks. The Tigers already have a young, quality catcher and Spencer Torkelson at 1B. They have another top 100 prospect who also plays C/1B. The Tigers could part with this guy if you could meet a need of theirs. Hits left-handed. This is my top hitting target.
Would the Orioles be interested in swapping Mayo for either Walker or Gorman?

Thank goodness we have several posters here who know in the inner workings of the Orioles brass! OMG. You can't make this stuff up.

Either?
Per BTV:
Mayo: 12.8
Gorman: 1.5
Walker: 0

The strategy this offseason:
1. The point of all trades will be to get prospects.
2. The point of all FA signings will be to fill roster holes on the short term and as possible trade bait at the deadline.
All OPs should be looked at with this lense.
So if you want to suggest the cards sign like an ohearn to one year to play RF, cool.
All other trade scenarios are pointless.

I doubt it. Neither Gorman--who plays 1B/2B/3B nor Walker, who plays the corner outfield, are a good positional fit.
I know Mo's not running the show in Baltimore, but you gotta figure that O'Neill gets another shot to turn that contract around. And Colton Cowser probably gets another go, too. I don't see how they value a guy like Gorman who covers positions that they've got legitimately covered with better guys. Or Walker, who's already a project when they might be trying to get big money (O'Neill) and youth (Cowser) time to get back on track.

Burleson is projected 3.5million in ARB. With only 7 XBH with RISP. That gives him only a "2" on the PtV scale.... PtV = Power to Value scale. That's not going to cut it in the 3 hole....that's HORRIBLE, and he's going into his Made Up Prime.
With that type of regression he needs to be traded Pronto or he'll level Toronto.

You have swung and missed, badly, the last two seasons on your Burleson criticisms. Going for three I see. Burleson will continue to make you look like the pseudo baseball talent analyst that you are.

Well, in all fairness, Shady, not everyone can be an accomplished, elite “baseball talent analyst” and super-scout (who “see things others don’t”) like you:
Burleson: “the next Tony Gwynn / Joey Votto”
Gorman: “the next Eddie Mathews”
Walker: “Frank Robinson”
Yepez: “a prime-Pujols”
Rom: “Tudor-like”
Pallante: “a righty Chris Carpenter”
Roby: “a young Tom Seaver”
Saggese: “Steve Garvey” and “Jeff Bagwell”
Scott II: “Lou Brock”
Carlson: “will be the best hitter on the MLB team from day-one”
The list goes on and on. “Stay tuned.”

I do have some fun making early comparisons. It's more just being hopeful for a young Cardinals' player than anything. Burleson probably won't be a superstar. But he's going the have a very good career.

Seems like the Cardinals have a fairly decent core of position players with Burleson, Herrera, Donovan, Contreras,
and Winn. JJ should play nicely into that mix. I'm hoping Bloom gets a veteran outfielder ala a Berkman/Beltran type.

Burleson, Herrera, Donovan, Contreras, Winn and Wetherholt are an outstanding core. Honorable mention: Saggese and Scott. Incomplete: Walker and Gorman. There is a need for a "big bat" in the outfield.

you wanted to trade Donovan not even a 5 weeks ago. You've wanted to trade Contreras for the last 2 seasons. You wanted to trade Herrera earlier this season. You see all 3 as a threat to Burley's future AB's....but now, all of a sudden, they're apart of "an outstanding core"
are you trying to get back in Cranny's good graces? You are, arent' you? Am I too late for the hug?
