Doug Armstrong on Milan Lucic's training camp PTO: "He got banged up the last couple (of preseason) games. We're going to rehab him here, get him back up health-wise to 100% and likely reconnect on an in-season PTO to get him up and running and see where he's at then." #stlblues
Milan Lucic is dealing with a lower-body injury that he will rehab here. #stlblues will extend his PTO in the 10-day increments and whether he earns a contract yet or not will be determined. #stlblues
Pretty evident how bad Monty wants him here
Agreed. He in no way has shown he’s earned the spot but it’s pretty clear they want him to so they’re going out of their way to give him every opportunity to showcase himself. Going to continue to have him around, help him rehab and then I’d assume give him a couple weeks worth of practices before making the call.
I don't think that is that evident, I think its only clear that they respect the guy and have interest doing him a favor. Maybe they want him ice him on this team but I don't think that is overly clear yet.

Thinking its good for him and the team to have him around thus far I don't think is a clear indication they want him on the ice for the Blues in NHL hockey games but it could be.
Monty clearly wants Looch on this team, on the ice and in that locker room because if he didn’t, they would have sent him home already. They are doing everything possible to keep him around and get him healthy. How many PTO’s have the Blues given out in the last 10 years where they actually extended it past training camp?
He’s not going anywhere until they exhaust all options for getting him healthy or Lucic tells them it just isn’t gonna work.
Agreed. While I agree with skilles that it’s not costing the Blues much at all to keep him around (cost of 1 additional meal when they do team meals, hotel probably, cost of the time of training staff etc), they wouldn’t do that unless they really wanted it to work out.
It’s fine wanting him around the guys and in the room, but I just don’t see how him sucking wind on the ice is helping.
The team can see that right?

Clearly. That’s why he’s not signed yet. My guess is they either think he can add a step once he’s fully over the groin issue, add a step once he shakes some more rust off or both…and they’re giving him the chance to do so.

He was getting better and better each game in pre, 8 hits in the last one. It is patently obvious the club is giving him every opportunity to make the team and they see a need for that type of player with this group.

What is also obvious is lots of posters don't want him to make the team either based on the domestic issue that was dropped or the idea that he is just a going to be a slow goon liability out there. Everyone know you have to be able to skate and play minutes in todays game. He was never a pure goon could always play, something like 15 min avg toi his last season in Calgary.

11 mins for the Flames. He’d be a 9-10 ideally with days off etc

Exactly. I don't/didn't ever see Lucic in the definitional aspect of "goon". He has played like a very tough hockey player who could beat you bad in a lot of ways. Very serious respect of different possibilities, including but not limited to physical injury amongst them. He does keep players honest by getting that respect, but he would not hesitate to oblige goons also. As I've said before when we played against him. I hate that guy, wish we had him on our team. This is all from eyeball on my part, hold the stats. What happens from this point on remains to be seen, but I agree with Monty.

Blues players took cheap shots the entire time Twist and Chase were there too. If fans were more honest it's because they want a thug to go smash when they feel mad and this one will likely play that role and he's very thuggy so we feel extra confident in this ridiculous theory that has not been true in decades, if it ever indeed was.
Pittsburgh trading for Reaves and then sending him to Vegas not even a year later kind of proves this point. Policing just isn’t the thing that fans think it is.
... and Reeves is now with San Jose. Now that's a veteran laden team that doesn't need any protect... oh ... wait a tic... Hello there Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, Michael Misa, Phillip Kurashev ...
Nothing about this means that the idea is effective. It's a fantasy and now San Jose is living it.
Listen to what Brett Hull said about Lucic's presence in the last pre-season game and tell me the idea isn't effective. Guys that played the game know the game within the game

Brett Hull knows. These keyboard warriors don't know diddly-squat.
