Seems to me that the current regime (aka Cards bird Brain Trust) has imposed an uppercut, pull everything approach to hitting. Remember when Matt Carpenter was a valuable singles/doubles/triples hitter with occasional power? He was quite effective in that stage of his career.
Then “Analytics” and someone in Mozo the Clown’s Mafia convinced Maarp to start swinging for the fences and pulling everything. Remember how Maarp wouldn’t even shoot the ball through the SS hole when opposing infields used the shift on him?
I use Maaarp as an example of how so many Card hitters have seemingly screwed up their swing to satisfy some coach or manager somewhere in the Cardinal organization.
I know I’m beating a dead horse, but Mr. Bloom needs to totally clean house of most of the coaches, manager, and minor league talent evaluation personnel. They, like Mozo, have utterly failed and wrecked this once-proud organization.

And why can't they help him ?Is it all his fault or do the coaching same need some blame. If the the kid can make make contact could be a great hitter.
He’s not a good hitter he sucks then after a long period of sucking he starts adjusting gets hot the pitchers adjust then it takes him a long period of sucking before he finally adjusts again and it ends up being long periods of sucking with a short hot streak or two mixed in that leaves his numbers looking like trash. The coaches can tell him they are getting you out with fastballs up in the zone lay off of them and make them bring the pitches down but they can’t force him to do it they can’t bat for him. A lot of hitters just like him have failed a ton of power but can’t do the main thing a player needs to do and that’(poop) the ball. He’s not a unicorn like some have claimed there have been many just like him who failed in the big leagues because they aren’t good hitters and can’t make contact
Nice post. I will add he isn't very good to start with. Two weeks ago some of his supportrrs claimed he could be as good as Joc Peterson or Muncy. We should hope he can be half as good.

He swings for the fences because he isn't strong enough to hit home runs without swinging for the fences. The analytics people love him. Great exit velocity and launch angle.
20 home runs and 150 strikeouts.

JW won't survive in the league hitting worm burners while being built like a linebacker and playing [shirt]ty D. Same with KKorn. Tons of K's, and 155 HRs with horrible D and no speed, he won't last long either.

I’m pretty sure the coaching staff doesn’t coach him to strikeout. He does it all on his own.

I only cited one because I have better things to do than wasting my time to satisfy you, you Richardweed. But since you ask, what about Walker, Gorman, and some of the current day uppercutters?
Scouty, you never fail to disappoint everyone with your unwelcome, sarcastic, and low IQ posts. Do you drink that heavily every morning?

If ScoutyJones could make contact he could be a great hitter!!!

First, he doesn't have any sense of urgency. IOWs, why would he listen to anyone when he is secure in his position? Secondly, he has become a spinner. He can't adjust his swing and can't go the other way consistently. It is all or nothing with him. He isn't even a good guess hitter. In every swing, there is a moment or split second that is often termed "go." That is the point where a good hitter has assessed the pitch and has determined swing path, and or to check that swing. Poor hitters can't master that point. Gorman can make changes, but won't. In three years, I don't expect him to be in MLB.

Obviously I don’t know Gorman personally so can only comment from watching him play.
Based on that....he doesn’t appear to be very bright.
Power is useless if you have no conception of the strike zone!

He gets homer happy! He starts trying to pull everything. Pitchers recognize this and don’t give him anything that he can hit that way hard, but he tries to anyway. When he goes with the pitch and just hits what he’s given, he does pretty good. You’ll see him hit balls out to LCF, and hit line drives into the gaps. However, once he does this a few times, he starts fooling himself into thinking he can do that with any pitch and falls back into old habits. Nothing will ever change until he realizes this and Is ok being that type of hitter.
He wants to be a 40 homer guy so bad, I don’t think he’ll ever change. He’s simply too stubborn and believes he can do it his way!
100% spot on!
They pitch him away...he steps in the bucket AND tries to pull.
When he goes the other way he has success.
It’s between the ears.
Young players rely mostly on physical talent. At some point that strategy stops working. That’s when the best players LISTEN AND LEARN AND ADJUST. The rest get other careers.
Not going to single out Gorman. You could include Walker, Scott, etc, and hitter struggling to establish consistency.
When I watch them struggle game after game I wonder?
Don’t they watch film?
We hear about “analytics” all the time.
Exactly WHAT are they analyzing???
Look.....I get that hitting a baseball that is moving 90+ MOH and breaking is very difficult.
But...when you watch the film and see the same mistakes game after game what are they thinking???
Yep! We could probably include Dylan Carlson, Colby Rasmus and others in this analysis.
