There will be no evaluation on BluesTalk of
1) why he is doing better in MTL
2) why Army gave up such a promising young player
3) why his winger replacement is not doing as well
4) why Army made such a stupid trade.

Here is your big problem.
Here on Blues Talk we realize that great Truth," Ya can't win 'em all". And we see how stellar Army's Teams have performed compared to at least 25 to 30 other NHL GMs and we play with the hands we are dealt.
It has been great fun, most all of the time.

Forgetting need for a moment, it's an unusual trade in that you have given a 1 year proven player for a next to zero year unproven player.
DA has some balls and this is a trade on the come. I sense Mailloux welcomes the new start and the importance of this opportunity for his career.
Who knows for real but I'm strangely optimistic in the end this one is going to work out for Saint Louis.

Army has shown zero ability to acquire a young elite RHD since Petro left. Is this the one? Maybe. However Mailloux is the 4th best young defensive prospect on MTL. If Mailloux is great, MTL has 3 HOFers in the pipeline.dhsux wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:14 am Forgetting need for a moment, it's an unusual trade in that you have given a 1 year proven player for a next to zero year unproven player.

My prediction is that Mailloux is average. His best quality is that he is young and he immediately makes Army’s defense younger.

Besides David Reinbacher, who isn't as NHL ready as Mailloux. And the Blues clearly wanted someone as close to NHL ready as possible.

Re: Bolduc
Let's start here. You are complaining about losing Bolduc. Bolduc isn't anything close to elite. He is a good young player who could blossom into a really good top 6 winger or settle into a quality middle six scorer who excels on the pp. All we know about him to this point is he runs hot and cold, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. He could lite it up in Montreal, or he could have a really rough season playing on the team he grew up loving and the stress of playing in front of his friends and family 42 nights a year. All of that being said the Bolducs of the league get traded quite regularly.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 09:47 amMy big problem is that I want my city to have what every other NHL city has. You know what the Blues have in excess of and even drafted even more of this season? Samuel Bolducs. They need to make room for Dvorsky, and he very likely starts off on the 3rd line wing, Snuggerud is going 1st line as his shot should work tremendously with Thomas' passing, Kyrou is the de facto 2nd line winger, and that leaves nowhere for Bolduc. It's a numbers game and he was a very tradeable asset.
You know what doesn't get traded quite regularly? Young potential top 4 RHDmen. That's simply a deal you can't pass up. Now he could completely fail, he could amount to nothing more than a 3rd pairing dman who is healthy scratched 20 games a year, or essentially another Bobby Bortuzzo, but that's a chance you have to take because RHD is becoming the hardest position to fill in the league. That's not hyperbole, that's not trying to make this trade sunshine and lollipops, that's the simple and honest to god's truth. Top that with the fact he has the potential he has you take the chance. Couple that with the fact that if he hadn't done what he did in Europe he very likely goes top 15 or so and you would be slobbering all over him, I think it is a chance worth taking.
Re: Bolduc
Bolduc was a bad move.
One.
He was the wrong guy.
If we were to trade for a rhd. Neighbours would of been the guy to trade. He is the guy we have 10 of. Bolduc was what Thompson was and will be. A 50 goal sniper.
Neighbours is another third line grinder army has turned into a second liner.
Two. Bolduc has so much more value. Any other gm would of ask for a first to go along with a hope. Some would of walked away on a second rd. But I feel, this trade like many was more personal, then business
As far as army winning some and losing some trades.
That's big time bull[shirt].
His best trade, is/was judged on the fact we won the cup. If not for that, Buffalo made out like a bandit and we got another old guy.
Imo. This team was on the way to be a multiple cup winner. When Army took over. However Army is smart, stopped all that building and starting giving old friends, new jobs. Because he knew February wins, are what his fans want. Now he is the greatest. Tell me. Are the blues even in the top half of the league in wins. Under Army. How about points. Top ten?

Unhinged nonsense. The Blues rank fifth in wins under Army's tenure with 601 including four of the top five points totals in team history [and a Cup], per the Google AI.Cahokanut wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 11:23 am Bolduc was a bad move.

Re: Bolduc
I think you’re way overrating Bolduc’s potential here. A 50 goal scorer? There were 800ish players that played in the NHL last season. One of them, Leon Draisaitl, scored 50 goals. I really like Bolduc and he has a nice shot but it’s incredibly unlikely he ever scores 50.Cahokanut wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 11:23 am Bolduc was a bad move.

You think the Blues should’ve gotten a 1st on top of Mailloux for Bolduc?? Again, you’re way overvaluing Bolduc. He’s 1 year farther along so carries a little less risk in that sense than Mailloux but otherwise they’re pretty comparable in terms of caliber of player. And Mailloux plays the much more valuable position. Him being a RD (hardest position to acquire) and Bolduc being a winger (easiest position to acquire) bridges that value gap IMO.
Re: Bolduc
Neighbours has had more goals than Bolduc. Neighbours is a power forward in the making, Bolduc was just a goal guy. Neighbours is more of a rarity in today's league.

Reinbacher is the only real prospect..and RH, but he doesn't appear NHL ready as Mailloux. Although that might change this year.
