He had flat tires when given a runway. Hence UniKKKorn. Or, just KKKorn now3dender wrote: ↑24 May 2025 21:58 pm If they only play him 300-400 PAs per season he'll only ever be a backup guy. Funny how that works.
Misuse of assets not to have given him the "runway" they claimed they would last winter.
And it's funny saying you like his power off the bench. His SLG has completely evaporated this year. Funny how not having consistent PT may affect that.

Who is he replacing in the lineup?woofy25 wrote: ↑25 May 2025 05:53 am Is there anything easier than saying one doesn’t see the hype with a once highly regarded prospect hitting under .200 and is barely playing?
He was untouchable in 2021 and 2022 for a reason and had a very good 2023/age 23 season that should have made you excited for his future. He clearly has fallen off the wagon since then.
Gorman is Exhibit A showing the cardinals have not stuck to their stated 2025 plan

Kid needs ABs in AAA...he's failed and flailed at MLB. League found his huge and obvious weakness and exploited it.
His numbers suck worse year after year. 53 OPS+

Regrettably, The Marmot is not a very complex thinker, and I suspect you have captured the maximum depth of thought of which he is capable.
Long term strategic thinking has always eluded him.

So MLB can measure bat speed and ball speed but not throwing speed. Makes a lot sense.riff raff wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:37 pmlol...moose-and-squirrel wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:35 pmssshhh... they're polishing their pocket protectorriff raff wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:32 pmTell me, how exactly do these ioT stats work?Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:27 pmYour eye test supersedes measured velocity. You did claiming he had a strong arm. It might be physically strong as in arm wrestling but as far as throwing the ball with velo it’s in the bottom 25% per position.riff raff wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:43 pmWho said that?Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:42 pmSo MLB can measure bat speed and ball speed but not throwing speed. That’s grouped with / against SS 3rd and 2nd
And somewhere lost in context it was in relational to him taking over for Nado as an everyday 3rd baseman. Of course his arm is fine for 2nd base. Who’s isn’t.
Re: Is Gorman right sized in his current role?
Unlike N/A, Walker, Herrera and a few others, Gorman has the ability to play 2B/3B/1B/DH and being a LH hitter, meaning it would be easy and practical to start him 3 times a week.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 May 2025 10:42 amIf they keep him up here, then he's GOT to play 3rd base at least once a week (a day off/week would do NADO good) and 2nd at least once/week too.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑25 May 2025 09:27 amAgree, Gorman is seeing way too much bench time. I could see Wetherholt or Saggese or both playing 3B or 2B within this season or next.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 May 2025 08:44 am Gorman needs to be at Memphis getting AB's, not rotting on the bench
Good job Mo![]()
They have to be getting close to Memphis time.
I honestly can't fault Oli here for not playing him when the team is on a 15-4 run and only 2 game back.
I've ALWAYS felt MLB is NOT the place you develop players, that's what the minor leagues are for and it appears Gorman's regression means he needs more development time.
Gorman has had very good overall success at the MLB level and needs no further "development" in the minors.
He simply needs to play and get the 500 PA's in a single season as Super Slo Mo originally committed to.
Then STL can make an informed decision about the future.
But, what we are seeing is The Marmot displaying the same poor leadership skills as he has so many times in the past.
He has zero ability to think long term.
And very little ability to think strategically.
Instead, it is very clear that he is once again playing the silly "sending a message" game which has backfired several times previously.
And it is doing so once again right now.

I don’t know about 500 pas but he’ll get more PAs eventually someone will get injured and he’ll be needed.Melville wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:58 pmUnlike N/A, Walker, Herrera and a few others, Gorman has the ability to play 2B/3B/1B/DH and being a LH hitter, meaning it would be easy and practical to start him 3 times a week.rockondlouie wrote: ↑25 May 2025 10:42 amIf they keep him up here, then he's GOT to play 3rd base at least once a week (a day off/week would do NADO good) and 2nd at least once/week too.redbirdfan51 wrote: ↑25 May 2025 09:27 amAgree, Gorman is seeing way too much bench time. No, I didn't and its apparent you can't explain how MLB is measuring his throwing speed.Alex Reyes Cy Young wrote: ↑25 May 2025 12:45 pmYou did claiming he had a strong arm. Few can fire the ball to 1b when turning a DP as well as he does.
A strong arm has always been viewed as one of his assets.
There is a reason it is Gorman, not Donovan, who plays 3B when both are on the field.
"Average velocity" is a silly argument to make for a 2b - since so many throws from that position are intentionally soft tosses as a result of being closer to 1b and more plays which are not going to be close.
Might as well compare a pitchers' average fastball pitch speed to his speed when throwing to 1b.
