Not concerned with his arm, he is underused. He was a catcher most of his life so doesn’t have the wear and tear kids his age do. Only started pitching at 13. He was always undersized so coaches wouldn’t give him a chance. More concerned about his knee which he dislocated three years ago at school, then dislocated again last fall pitching.ramfandan wrote: ↑09 May 2025 23:10 pmHope you are keeping informed about teen baseball players injuries .Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑09 May 2025 22:52 pm16Cranny wrote: ↑09 May 2025 21:51 pmHow old is your son?Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑09 May 2025 21:33 pmFully agree.
My son threw 92 pitches last week in a game, his arm didn’t fall off. I am sure Fedde will be fine. Analytics are killing this game.
Dr. James Andrews , renowned orthopedic surgeon , has seen an alarming number of 13, 14, 15, & 16 year olds in the past decade getting Tommy John surgeries . Overuse and also pitching year round without any off time recovery .
Might want to read this article and then pursue more info . It's a serious issue .
Best of luck !

Dr. James Andrews has performed a significant number of Tommy John surgeries on teen baseball players. He has seen a dramatic increase in these surgeries on young athletes, with the percentage rising from 12% to 33% of his total UCL patients since 1998. While precise numbers are not available, he has mentioned performing around 3-4 Tommy John surgeries per week on high school athletes, according to ESPN. In the past, he used to perform 8-9 per year in the high school and younger age group.
Why would you have a pitcher throw 109 pitches with a 10 run lead?

Frequency of pitching is a big key AND not having a 2 to 3 month OFF TIME each year is another factor, according the famed sports surgeon. His studies show teens who are continuing to throw pitches year round are at greatest risk for elbow issues.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑09 May 2025 23:07 pmThere are league limits on how many they can throw. My son wasn’t, I would be concerned on an 8U kid throwing that much. He never pitched in minors and only once or twice in majors.desertrat23 wrote: ↑09 May 2025 23:15 pmMy son plays 8U and it’s a 50-pitch limit. But them pitching at that age at all is kind of stupid.Stlcardsblues wrote: ↑09 May 2025 23:07 pmThere are league limits on how many they can throw. His age is 95 (can’t start a batter after 95). My son never had a coach give him a real chance so he would only pitch three or four times a year (spring, summer and fall combined), some games being an inning or two. High School coach only wanted to use him as the starting shortstop, but was short on pitchers one game. Asked him if he ever pitched which my son said yes. He started that game and pitched great so he will probably get one more chance this spring.
In 16 years he has pitched less than 15 times, but he going through a massive growth spurt and also lifting so people are starting to notice. My cousins son pitched professionally in the Giants system. Had to retire in his early 20’s for an injury (not Tommy John).

It’s the velocity combined with increased spin rates that keep them from wanting to have them throw 100+ pitches. Look at the dodgers wonderful pitching lab it increases spin rates but shreds arms. Sure little leaguers can throw a lot of pitches but they aren’t throwing 90+ MPH with crazy spin rates. But 109 probably isn’t that bad for fedde who isn’t a big power arm With spin rates

Lol 10-0 win but gotta find something to complain about!
Surprises there's not a post about scoring 10 runs but 0 home runs so they shouldn't matter!

When did it become a “thing” to worry or complain about a vet ML pitcher throwing 100 pitches?? Who came up with the 100 #? Are all pitchers the same??

The arbitrary 100 pitch limit is one of the dumbest measures that baseball has allowed to govern and dictate their behaviors.

It used to be that kids enjoyed playing a different sport each session. Now they’re being channeled into one sport early and elite (traveling) team coaches are telling them that to keep up, they’ll have to play that sport year round. The parents are for it because they want the kid to get a college scholarship some day as the cost of college has gone out of sight.

No problem whatsoever
Oli managed it exactly right, giving his pen's another full day of rest while allowing Fedde to get his shutout.
Feede's like gone mid season, why not throw him as long as you can.
Not an Oli fan, he managed this one correctly.

This question shows how baseball has been vagina-zide.

SP are in the 95 percentile or better in terms of size for all males. And are considerably larger than 50 years ago. Have the most advanced nutrition and training known to man…..but for some reason cant throw close to the numbers of pitches as past generations??An Old Friend wrote: ↑10 May 2025 08:14 amThe arbitrary 100 pitch limit is one of the dumbest measures that baseball has allowed to govern and dictate their behaviors.
