Why would you have a pitcher throw 109 pitches with a 10 run lead?

Because that's what men do.

To give him more confidence than he has had all year ? Fedde has had his ups and downs.
Maybe Oli thought it would be a big confidence booster going forward .
Sure we will find out in postgame conference. It is the most obvious question to ask the manager since it is so rare .

It’s good for the resume if traded

9 times he had to walk to and from the pitching mound! Have they no decency?

maybe if starters were allowed to pitch like they used to the game wouldnt be so boring with 5 pitching changes and just maybe there would be fewer injuries

Seems odd to save a long reliever and work a starting pitcher with no extra day off prior to the next start.

Why not. What does it impact negatively?

Not really.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑09 May 2025 21:24 pm Seems odd to save a long reliever and work a starting pitcher with no extra day off prior to the next start.
The last four innings had zero stress pitches.
The game was no longer competitive and Fedde's workload was no more difficult than throwing pitches in the bullpen.

I use 100 as a general barometer.
Fedde must average about that unless he washes out early.
He threw 109 not like he threw 125!
And as others have said they were stress free.
Probably less wear and tear than if he threw 7 and 100 in a tight game?

12 games in 13 days.
Pitcher with a 6 run lead after 5 innings.
Zero need to take him out.

On the other hand it saves the bullpen a night of rest.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑09 May 2025 21:24 pm Seems odd to save a long reliever and work a starting pitcher with no extra day off prior to the next start.

juan marichal and warren spaghn pitched a 16 inning 1-0 game where both pitched all 16 innings and both threw over 220 pitches...these guys today are babied and always hurt...starters make 40 million dollars to throw 150 innings a year on pitch counts....ridiculous
