Many of us mentioned that either Fermin or Barrero should have traveled north after spring training. This was poor roster, construction, and poor foresight by having Donovan at the designated hitter.

Mo's foolish roster construction out Oli in a tough spot.

Siani has no place on this team.
As long as Walker is in the OF, Siani has a place.
lol
Walker has been pretty good.
Walker has looked better in the OF. But it still makes sense to have MS as a D replacement.

Not only pretty good, Walker's a +2 DRS, only +1 behind the league leaders!

He's improved dramatically under J. Jay's tutelage.

Sinai has no place on this team w/VSII establishing himself as an everyday CFer w/ a +1 DRS (tied for 3rd best in MLB).

As we saw last night, Siani here kept them from having a MI when needed.
And MS has played the role of def replacement 9 games.

Playing Donovan as DH was "interesting"since he had no other infielders.

Oli is very smart because his big "interesting" move did not burn him this time.

Playing Burleson at DH and Donovan at 1B would have made things less "interesting".
Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than smart oli got lucky
It's almost always better to be lucky than smart. In the short term, anyway.

It was stupid and simple-minded mistake that he won't make again.
A very poor manager.
Using your most versatile fielder as DH isn’t smart. IMO the real stupidity revealed last night was the terribly constructed roster.

Why do you think that is?

Is it because Walker and Scott haven’t been + defenders at their positions?

You know better. You just hitched your wagon to Siani and are now arguing to save face. You don’t have to do that buddy. We all are wrong sometimes. It’s okay.

Marmol is using Siani as a defensive replacement to save face for having him here. Don’t be an Oli.

Yeah there's really no excuse. TLR probably cried a little. Not only having to play Pages at 2b but inserting the backup catcher.
What's the problem with inserting the backup catcher? He's still available to catch. You'd just need to replace the 2B position with another out of place player.

It proved to be a good move.

Credit where credit is due
He gets credit for a mistake that happened to work? Every move MO or Oli make is a good one in your opinion. At least your consistent.

What did I say a few weeks ago? I said Siani is a better roster edition because the other players are going to get a ton of playing time, and Jordan Walker can use a defensive replacement. Also, Siani can pinch run.

This is the exact way I said he would be used.

Did you really think MS was going to get a bunch of starts w JW/VS/LN starting? Of course not.

The reason he doesn’t get more playing time is he sucks. If he was a better player he would get more playing time. It’s a waste of a roster spot. I’ve never seen a team so dumb their philosophy for the bench is we have to make sure that spot goes to a player who is so terrible he will rarely be used

It worked...

Kinda pathetic that a 23 year old has to sit due to a stiff back 12 games into a season after a day off.

How is the Unikkkorn Smellville? Never been anything like him.
Factually, it did not work.
His lineup blunder forced him to play a C at 2B.
The fact that he was forced to do so is proof positive his lineup choice was a terrible mistake.

Preferable to be both smart and lucky.
More of the former produces more of the latter.

Fact is, the org wants the CURRENT roster’s playing time exactly as is. At least to begin the season.

So if Barrero, for example, was on the roster, he would see similar PR/def replacement playing time as Siani.

Now all this could change, but Siani does currently serve a role as being a really darn good def replacement and PR.

Did you ever watch during the TLR era? He just never did it. And was far too prepared to pull an Ollie.

True except Barrero could do all of than and also play the infield and is right handed which makes him much more versatile and useful than Siani
