Re: The Pages to 2b worked
I didn't get to see much of the game. How did he do?
Say what you will about the guy, he's come through for us a lot in a relatively short time. Best back-up catcher since...?

Sometimes it’s better to be lucky than smart oli got luckycardstatman wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 22:38 pmPlaying Donovan as DH was "interesting"since he had no other infielders.
Oli is very smart because his big "interesting" move did not burn him this time.
Playing Burleson at DH and Donovan at 1B would have made things less "interesting".

At the end of the day, the result of almost every managers decision is based on player performance, so yea, some luck is always needed.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 22:55 pmSometimes it’s better to be lucky than smart oli got luckycardstatman wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 22:38 pmPlaying Donovan as DH was "interesting"since he had no other infielders.

Re: The Pages to 2b worked
Herzog would have been called a genius for the move. 2B is overrated as a defensive position. After all, Jeff Kent played @B for years, after stinking at #B.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑12 Apr 2025 01:22 amYea credit were credits due to luck. Give Pages credit as he handled the chances he got.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑12 Apr 2025 01:22 amYea credit were credits due to luck. Fortunately wasn’t severely tested.
As for Oli?
Are we to believe that his pregame PLAN was:
“Hey I’ll DH Donovan to keep his bat in the lineup and I have Pages in reserve for IF to replace Nado/Winn/Saggese”?????
Uh no.
He’s not bright.
As someone else posted. Either flip Burly/Donovan(1B/DH) or if Donovan is so worn out that he needs two straight days off then DH Baker.
He wants to rotate his players using the DH to keep them fresh. I get that.
But....leaving yourself without a reserve IF is grossly shortsighted.
So yes....he got lucky!
Re: The Pages to 2b worked
Just what other options did he have? I’ll give him credit when it is earned. I’ll give credit to Pages for doing his best, but Oli as manager, should have had more foresight into this possible situation.ecleme22 wrote: ↑12 Apr 2025 01:19 amIt proved to be a good move.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 22:55 pmSometimes it’s better to be lucky than smart oli got luckycardstatman wrote: ↑11 Apr 2025 22:38 pmPlaying Donovan as DH was "interesting"since he had no other infielders.

Re: The Pages to 2b worked
I almost spit out my beer when I say Pages at 2nd, funny as heck seeing that body playing there.
I wanted to see him turn one or at least belly dive for a ground ball.
