But Herrera still should not have been subbed out last night. Taking his bat out of the fifth spot collapsed the lineup.

The kid can hit. How about, The Iváninator
I assumed he was taken out related to his brain fart losing track of the count.

Sarcastic approach!
I like it.
Of course, "rope" or "laser" could refer to a line drive, which runs the risk of diverting attention away from the intended meaning.
Could be a bit problematic.

The Baseball Clown

Jack Patches
Yad-"I" (only late in his career)
Toxic Twins
The Unicorn

After watching yesterday's game, and a certain high arcing, slow arriving throw to second base, it is time to reveal another.
But first, a choice must be made between 2 worthy appellations.
And so, for the first time, I will put it to a vote before the final determination.
Shall it be Eephus Herrera?
Or Hail Mary Herrera?
I am leaning toward the latter but will consider the ballot returns before applying the perfect branding.
I found no enjoyment in this weird post. I hope you're doing ok, have a nice Tuesday
Pretty clear you enjoyed it.
You have a nice day as well - and enjoy the game later.

It's the narcissistic personality. Vaulted feelings about oneself to hide insecurities. Visions of grandeur.
Again, seek help.
The Paper Tyler was pretty good. It's both a play on paper tiger:
pa·per ti·ger
/ˌpāpər ˈtīɡər/
noun
a person or thing that appears threatening but is ineffectual.
But it also describes his fragility, as if he's made of paper.

I also feel like Yad-I is pretty accurate for Molina's attitude his last few seasons (and I say that as a person who was a huge Yadi fan until his attitude became grating me at the end of his career)
Predictably, that is very nice of you.
Personally, I think Super Slo Mo, The Poser, and Lars The Human Sushi-baar belong in the upper echelon with the 2 you referenced.
The others, while very instructive, are not quite as good.
It remains to be seen how well The Unicorn will apply over time - but I remain confident.

I think Melville may be waiting for Crooks next year and just doesn't wanna see The Iváninator at catcher long term.

It’s only and always about the game.

In this case, however, I’m discussing baseball, therefore “Eephus” is the correct term in my mind.
Eephus was the first word which occured to me at the time of the throw (the latest of many) and it neatly replaced "Ivan".
You make a great point that from a baseball perspective the word is most appropriate
But given how low Herrera' success rate is, "Hail Mary" is also fitting
And given how long the middle infielders patiently wait for the ball to arrive, "hang time" is darn funny!
Going to be a difficult decision
Indeed.

I shall trust the process and leave it in your capable hands.

Actually, I am glad to see it.
Success is my business and I always approve when anyone achieves it - even if temporary.
It is good for the team.
And increases trade value.
But "Lars the Human Sushi-baar" is branding for another thread.
This one is about Herrera.
And it appears "Eephus Herrera" and 'Hang Time Herrera" are currently the most popular appellations.
We will see where it ends up.

Congrats to Herrera for a nice day at the plate yesterday.
Well done.
Now, back to the topic at hand.
The final two branding choices are "Eephus Herrera" and "Hang Time Herrera" (with full credit to Monsieur for the latter excellent suggestion).
Very close call.
I did not anticipate Herrera himself providing the tie-breaker.
But that he did.
It is one thing for a pitcher to bean a hitter.
HBP.
But it is far more remarkable when a catcher does so.
HBC?
Rare indeed.
And deserving of being memorialized appropriately.
Eephus Herrera it is.
Though I encourage the Monsieur to regularly deploy Hang Time as well.
