Spoiler
It's a [shirt] show. They really need Irv's character, so 'killing his innie off' doesn't seem like a good move. But we'll surely be seeing more of his outie, who is already on the trail. The show runner actually lied about the Helly/outie situation. I'm just along for the ride, this show is mainly a silly parody of corporate pretensions, not much more
The observation about Kier's sarcastic take on the family origin story implies a great cynicism about the whole enterprise which she, above all other people in their world, would be in a position to be clear about. And yet, she's all in on the mass enslavement project - which makes her a dark character indeed, even to the extent of enslaving a part of herself. Square that circle. In on the joke, the butt of it all at once.

So can we assume
Spoiler
Helena went undercover just to try to seduce Mark away from hunting down Gemma, and to keep him working on Cold Harbor?

Seems that way. And also,
Spoiler
the scene where she was watching Mark on the security footage kissing Helly R. To me, I interpreted part of that as her developing some feelings, or at least superficial attraction, for Mark. They had a real tight shot of her pupil dilating. Based on her upbringing, maybe she’s never really had a chance for any kind of love life.

It was an outstanding episode, that I think will send ripple effects from here on out. Great acting, and the storytelling is some of the best on TV the last few years. IMO of course.

Except, as someone I think said, the reintegration got lost in the shuffle. They play too many games with the timebase. Its a gimmick.

E5 is a brake-pump from the previous two banger episodes. This one is basically about how everyone responds to the ORTBO. It's quite funny in parts but not too much happens.
Spoiler
Main events are Irv and Burt meeting in the outside, Dylan finding the directions to the exports hallway that Irving left, Milchick shifting into (child born out of wedlock) gear, and sketchy Dr. moving in with Mark while she performs the multi-treatment reintegration (bit of a bait and switch there as I'm sure most viewers assumed it was a one-time procedure).
Mark is most affected by the events of the ORTBO, and understandably so I think. There's a couple great framings of him in two different scenes of speaking to Helly. In the hallway scene, half of his head is cut off by a wall. In the bathroom scene, he is framed between two Helly's, one in person and one in the mirror. Love the camerawork.

The surprise interesting character of this season so far is Milchick, who they have gone out of their way to humanize. His performance review was simultaneously hilarious and sad.

Oh also, this ep confirms my "So can we assume" post above.

Really solid conceptual episode, kind of getting us registered on where things stand. I've come to much admire this show's meta absurdist ironic cast of an 'adventure/mystery' world, the existential tension between identities within a person, the vast power imbalance between every innie vs its outie, everyone, innie or outie, vs Kiel.
Spoiler
Cobel is, in mafia parlance, 'on the shelf'. Little Ms. Huang is a playah. Can't wait for the nice ham dinner siddown. Maybe we'll read about it in the bull[shirt] gazette. :) The innies may be way behind the curve, living in a mushroom farm, but they're learning.

A good buddy of mine has been on that reddit since he started watching Severance, and wow, they are intense in there. He shares with me some of the stuff he sees on there, and they have some kind of angle or reasoning for basically every word, picture, etc.

A lot of focus on the song the guy was whistling at the beginning of the latest episode "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald". We know the show is in Michigan, the wreck happened in Lake Superior in 1975. What does it all mean??? ha

The show is a meme generator. e.g.: I wouldn’t trust a word out of that mountebank’s mouth. Not even televisually.
Spoiler
Seems like maybe the biggest question right now is whether oBurt is a baddie and/or oBurt is iBurt.

I watch the New Rockstars breakdowns on YT and they are good for giving more detail about some of the hidden clues... but I also suspect they're giving the writers/directors a little too much credit at times.

E.g. some set design may just be an arbitrary stylistic choice and not some 4D chess allusion to the "Lost" Season 4 color scheme.

That's horrific and also brilliant and perfect... I hope it's true bc it could very well make this one of the best shows of all time.

If done and done right, it would also have serious ramifications for Helly R.'s file
Spoiler
i.e. identifying and isolating her father's consciousness? Or even Kier himself?

E6 was solid, finally got the Irv/Burt conversation we deserved, and #markhelly. Also some great Milchick character work and heartbreaking Dylan/Gretchen. This has become event viewing in my house with popcorn and a fire set for 9pm sharp.
Spoiler
Burt being a secret baddie was not a popular twist in my household, but I can respect it. Someone besides the obvious Lumon insiders has gotta be evil here, right? What is going on that he has apparently been severed for 8 years before the procedure became known? He's one of the first guinea pigs? A developer of the procedure? Clearly in tight with the Lumon inner circle.

Gretchen now officially cheating on oDylan with iDylan...

I'm 95% sure they're not gonna kill off Mark so the reintegration illness arc is a bit tedious for me. Also weird for it to involve a cough, unless that's something else.

My big question is wth is Helena doing with Mark? Is she really just so emotionally stunted that she's genuinely interested in him romantically? Or is there some nefarious motive that we'll find out about later? Consensus in my house (and online) seems to be the former, but honestly that would be a little disappointing to me as it would be sort of a silly thing for someone as evil genius as an Eagan to fall prey to.

To your last point, it’s one I made awhile back. I don’t think it takes away from anything, people have emotions. And I can only imagine her upbringing.

I guess she also could have been trying to get information. Wondering if Lumon has some idea of his reintegration.
