Well, the Wild spent the whole off season trying to trade Rossi. So if you are asking if I prefer their four guys to Thomas, Kyrou, Neighbours and Snuggerud, I’d take the latter.

It was disappointing that on opening night in front of their fans they could not mount an effort to overcome the first couple of goals. It's almost like players have to learn the same lessons at the beginning of each season. That makes me wonder how good the coaching was during the preseason.

But the next few games will give us a much better feel. Not crazy about the 3:00 start in Calgary but it's great to get the 6:30 start in Vancouver on Columbus Day.

MINN scored 2 goals at the end of the 1st. Then MINN didn’t get another shot until around 6-7 minutes left in the 2nd period. That shot went in to make it 3-0. It came on the PP after another weak call.

It’s hard to dominate but not finish. Then have the other team play defense like they will make the playoffs if they don’t let in any goals after they scored 3 goals on 8 shots!!! Its was 24-8 in shots yet 3-0! Play that game 10 times and win 9 of them.

Not going to win many with 17 missed shots and most of the shots on goal in the midsection of the goalie. How many dangerous shots?

Bolduc sealed his fate against Winnipeg in the playoffs, he was terrible. Blues saw something they didn’t like and decided they could move on from him. It’s going to take Mailloux a couple of years to get him playing like he did in the AHL.
We had chances, we just couldn’t finish. When Justin Faulk and Nathan Walker are your two best players …that’s gonna make for a long night.
Parayko was terrible, nothing from Thomas, Fowler and Buch not good. Not sure if Neighbours even realized this game counted because he brought nothing to the table last night.

Yea the whole team sucked, but you’re insane if you don’t understand why the guy that was the center of the biggest offseason move is going to be under a microscope. It wasn’t that it was all Mailloux’s fault, it was that he barely looked NHL caliber.

Years? We traded Bolduc for a guy that might be serviceable years from now? You just don’t do that…that’s a guy you get for a 2nd or an ok-ish prospect.

Next season Bolduc will get an extension and could be a big one if he nets more than 25 this year. The Blues are going to extend both Holloway and Broberg the Blues wont be in cap trouble at that point they will use a prospect or two to fill some gaps but they simply didnt have space for Bolduc.

The Blues feel like they already have their top 4 wingers set they like Snuggerud more than Bolduc so they dealt Bolduc. Whether or not the trade was good for the Blues as it relates to Mailloux will not be known soon which of course doesnt mesh with sports fan forum characteristics.

Needing to find ways to sign good players is a good thing. It isn't a reason you take a huge gamble way prematurely. The Blues paid a premium for LM. Just because the Blues had a glut of wingers doesn't mean you rush to trade him or that it has to be for LM in particular. I hated it when it happened and, if it is even possible, I hate it more today after seeing him play.

I never felt this move was strictly because they wanted to add a young dman but sure that’s part of it. I believe that LM was definitely a target based on teams that might have a young dman available…you can’t argue the fact that he is an AHL all star dman.
I still believe there is more to the story. I remember saying at least twice here during the Winnipeg series that Bolduc should have been benched for his play. Something happened that accelerated Bolduc’s exit…just my gut feeling.

Not sure where to start, but Bolduc is one hell of a player. He plays a 200-ft physical game and can pot 20-30 goals. He's exactly what every team is looking for in their top 6.

I'd imagine he was (upset) after putting in the work his management asked of him in the offseason, spending time in the AHL earning his opportunity, and then being one of the core players that drove the team through its late season surge...only to see a lower draft pick player jerk management around for a year, choke in the college post season, and then be thrown a heroes welcome directly into the top scoring line for the postseason.

In our own excitement we're all going to ignore the impact last seasons Snuggerud treatment could have had on the other young committed players who are putting in their licks and bruises for this team.

Agreed on Neighbors and Buchnevich. Neither is engaging or impacting the game and its been a downward trajectory for both for well over a year.

Joseph, Bjugstad and Toropchenko just don't look like NHL caliber players, much less third line players.

Finally, as for Mailoux, he has a decent ceiling, but let's not get away from ourselves here...he has never been considered an "elite" player. He's been scouted as a very good offensive defenseman with very big gaps on defense and game IQ. He's also completely unproven, 22 years old, hasn't sniffed the NHL yet, and the team that drafted him traded for a player to make him irrelevant in their depth chart. Anyone proposing we give him time to develop is asking us to wait for a future Joel Edmundson; not Alex Pietrangelo.

Am I happy to have a Logan Mailoux in our organization? Absolutely. That said, Armstrong swung and missed on his first, second and possibly third defensive options in the offseason and potentially panic traded for Mailoux. Again, a good get at the right cost. It wasn't the right cost.

The team won't sink or swim based on the Mailoux/Bolduc trade, but I'm going to be real about my opinions of it. It seems pretty obvious to me that it was a bad trade now and it will be a bad trade in four years.

GMs who trade Bolduc for a potential Joel Edmundson won't be GM for very long. He may not be an All-Star Dman in the making, but he's suppose to be an offensive player with toughness and a developing defensive game, and that's what we have...just will take time and having him play with Tucker isn't a smart move by Monty.
