This will sound crazy and I think you'd have to be looking at $50+ buy in for it to even help. 1st gets 40% of the pot. The remaining 60%, gets divided. 5% to the winner of each category. It's not a lot, with $50 buy in and 15 teams, total pot would be $750. So 1st would get $300, each catergory would get $37.50. Now way this league goes through waivers and trades, if you charged $1 per waiver and trade, you'd probably double the pot. Crazy, Right?

That shot at $37.50 in category might keep someone trying.

I hate leagues that charge for roster moves, and don’t think Yahoo has a system that would allow for that.

And if you are trying to encourage people to remain involved throughout the season when they are mired down in 10th, 11th, 12th, etc. you don't want to disincentivize them from trying to make moves to improve their team by making them pay more for those moves.

Ya you all know what a loon I am about roster moves. I was in a prize league many years ago that charged for transactions - by mid-season, I’d spent almost as much as the top prize. A system that would add those costs to the prize pool could make it interesting… but I don’t know of one that’s automated, nor do I have interest in becoming league CPA.

You could have a system:

2) At the end of the year, you get refunded an amount equivalent to how many pts. your team scores but not to exceed $100. If you are at 100+, you get your entire deposit back.
3) The "prize pool" for 1st; 1st, 2nd, 3rd; or whatever, is just whatever wasn't refunded to the teams in the league that finished with less than 100 pts.

For example, right now everyone from CPC in 8th up to me in first would get our entire $100 refunded.

9th through 15th would get a partial refund, and the total in the "prize pool" would be $183.50.

Even if you are not going to win, at least you have reason to try to claw your way up to 80 pts. instead of 50.

You could do that.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but I think we’d lose a number of people that wouldn’t want to pay the buy in. Also… I don’t want to deal with the accounting, collecting dues & making the payouts.

I’d like to keep the league at 15 teams. Maybe we could raise the buy in to something higher. I’ll see if there can be a custom (automated) payout structure w/ Yahoo that would allow for payouts to the top-5.

I want to keep the league populated. If a conditional financial trust is introduced between the commish and all team managers, that complicates everything.
