Re: CT Fantasy Baseball - Interested?
Disagree. I think you underestimate how people’s behavior changes even when there is money involved - even when the amount is not meaningful. Ever go to the track? If you put $2 to win on a horse you are rooting for that horse. If you have nothing on the line, you’ll probably find more entertainment value in watching other people’s reactions, rather than the actual race.HorseTrader wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 18:08 pm If you were talking about a $100 buy in that might work but it's a $10 buy in, who cares.
This will sound crazy and I think you'd have to be looking at $50+ buy in for it to even help. 1st gets 40% of the pot. The remaining 60%, gets divided. 5% to the winner of each category. It's not a lot, with $50 buy in and 15 teams, total pot would be $750. So 1st would get $300, each catergory would get $37.50. Now way this league goes through waivers and trades, if you charged $1 per waiver and trade, you'd probably double the pot. Crazy, Right?
That shot at $37.50 in category might keep someone trying.

You could compare their ‘real’ season totals to the totals you have from them in this league. Determining how many points you lost because of your decisions would be tricky.imadangman wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 19:02 pmYou know these things better than I do: is there somewhere I can see all the points that I had come on the bench due to missed lineup calls? I hate leagues that charge for roster moves, and don’t think Yahoo has a system that would allow for that.HorseTrader wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 18:47 pm So I just did a quick count of waiver pick up and trades. There were 50 trades (I'm surprised, thought there were more) course trade takes two teams so 50 counts as 100. There were I think 1250 (more or less) waiver pickups. You could charge a $1 a waiver move and $1 to each team on a trade and end up with a pool of $1300++
At 40% to 1st it would be worth $520, 5% per category would mean each was worth $65. With zero buy in I could see guys like trying to get the top in AVG and keep it in OPS. Matt based on those if it ended today you'd be looking at $650. Anyway just crazy thought.

And if you are trying to encourage people to remain involved throughout the season when they are mired down in 10th, 11th, 12th, etc. you don't want to disincentivize them from trying to make moves to improve their team by making them pay more for those moves.Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 21:16 pmI hate leagues that charge for roster moves, and don’t think Yahoo has a system that would allow for that.HorseTrader wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 18:47 pm So I just did a quick count of waiver pick up and trades. Ya you all know what a loon I am about roster moves. I was in a prize league many years ago that charged for transactions - by mid-season, I’d spent almost as much as the top prize. A system that would add those costs to the prize pool could make it interesting… but I don’t know of one that’s automated, nor do I have interest in becoming league CPA.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑12 Sep 2025 04:15 amAnd if you are trying to encourage people to remain involved throughout the season when they are mired down in 10th, 11th, 12th, etc. you don't want to disincentivize them from trying to make moves to improve their team by making them pay more for those moves.Quincy Varnish wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 21:16 pmI hate leagues that charge for roster moves, and don’t think Yahoo has a system that would allow for that.HorseTrader wrote: ↑11 Sep 2025 18:47 pm So I just did a quick count of waiver pick up and trades. 1) Everybody puts up $100.
2) At the end of the year, you get refunded an amount equivalent to how many pts. your team scores but not to exceed $100. If you are at 100+, you get your entire deposit back.
3) The "prize pool" for 1st; 1st, 2nd, 3rd; or whatever, is just whatever wasn't refunded to the teams in the league that finished with less than 100 pts.
For example, right now everyone from CPC in 8th up to me in first would get our entire $100 refunded.
9th through 15th would get a partial refund, and the total in the "prize pool" would be $183.50.
Even if you are not going to win, at least you have reason to try to claw your way up to 80 pts. instead of 50.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but I think we’d lose a number of people that wouldn’t want to pay the buy in. Also… I don’t want to deal with the accounting, collecting dues & making the payouts.
I’d like to keep the league at 15 teams. Maybe we could raise the buy in to something higher. I’ll see if there can be a custom (automated) payout structure w/ Yahoo that would allow for payouts to the top-5.

I want to keep the league populated. If a conditional financial trust is introduced between the commish and all team managers, that complicates everything.
Why do you hate guys named Ryan?

You picked up 7.5 points in 2 days, so you could consider those in flux, making your base line around 128.5.

From my current 133, I'd expect:
Runs: 0 to +1
HR: 0
RBI: 0
SB: -1 to 0
AVG: -1 to +3
OPS: 0 to +1
W: -0.5 to +0.5
SV: -1 to 0
K: +1 to +2
ERA: -1 to 0
WHIP: -1 to +2
QS: -0.5 to +1
So worst case -5 to best case +10.5, with a median of like +3.
Re: CT Fantasy Baseball - Interested?
My offense mustered an amazing 2/31 last night with 0 homeruns and 0 rbis.
I don't see being able to finish any higher than 120 points for myself. Trying to cling to 3rd place. Injury bug has gotten me in the second half, and the slump bug (Pete Crow Armstrong)

HR: 0
RBI: 0
SB: 0
AVG: -1 to +2
OPS: -1 to 0
W: -2.5 to -1.5
SV: 0
K: -3 to -1
ERA: 0 to +1
WHIP: 0 to +2
QS: -1
So worst case -9.5 to best case +1.5, with a median of like -4.
From gg's current 118, I'd expect:
Runs: 0
HR: 0
RBI: 0
SB: 0 to +1
AVG: -2 to +3
OPS: 0 to +1
W: -1
SV: 0
K: -2 to 0
ERA: 0 to +1
WHIP: -1 to +1
QS: -3 to -2
So worst case -9 to best case +4, with a median of like -2.5.
From Quincy's current 117.5, I'd expect:
Runs: 0
HR: 0 to +1
RBI: 0
SB: -1 to +1
AVG: 0
OPS: -1 to 0
W: 0 to +1
SV: 0
K: 0

K: 0
ERA: 0 to +1
WHIP: -3 to +1

So worst case -3 to best case +11, with a median of like +4.
So I'd predict order of finish as:
me - 136 pts.
ima - 120 pts.

Why 0 for me in ERA? I could pick up 3 points there. Also, I could add another point or 2 in Ks, if you account for my K/9 over the last month or so. I’m also not sure why you think Jeffy’s SV won’t move. His innings will be gassed in two or three days.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑13 Sep 2025 10:26 am Just FWIW.
