This just kicks the can down the road 6-12 months. But as others have said, Dallas will have more room the following season so perhaps that’s the strategy here. Will be interested to see if it says a topic of discussion all season and maybe becomes a distraction through.
Reminder he turned down $180M over 8 years from Seattle. He’s gambling on himself here but that’s a lot of $$ to walk away from. Clearly had zero interest signing there to walk away from that sort of payday.
Pretty sure it was 150MM.

Could also be this is his ticket out.dhsux wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 12:23 pmTo me it means he wants to stay in Dallas and he just gave them a good deal to keep him until next year when Dallas has the cash and can pay him to stay put.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑21 Jul 2026 21:04 pm Guess he wants to be a UFA in a year huh
Does this set him up to end up in Vegas? San Jose? LA Kings?
Other?
Biggest shoe I guess still to drop is Fantilli? Then maybe we see some roster filling moves yet.
Could be wrong but that's what I'm thinking.
He put himself in total control.
He has said he wants to stay in Dallas as well

I think if this was about getting out of Dallas he would have worked with his agent to find a trade that worked. Dallas was clearly willing to listen to offers.dhsux wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 14:29 pmhe did indeedUMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 13:41 pmVery well could be the case. He wants to stay, and this is the most painless way to get him to the big number he wants. He just has to hope he doesn't get a career ender between now and January when he's allowed to sign an extension.

Re: Roberston
It was $15M/year. So x 8 years that’d be $120M actually. Not sure what the heck I was doing still being awake at nearly 3am. Clearly my brain doesn’t function super well when that sleep deprived haha.UMR-alum-05 wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 05:10 amNot to nitpick but Seattle couldn't have offered him 180MM.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑22 Jul 2026 02:54 am Clearly wanted to stay in Dallas so interesting it’s only for 1 year. Re: Roberston
Dallas cant afford to pay him what he wants this year so they settled on 12m for this year and a long term extension will be announced jan 1. He's not leaving Dallas

Re: Roberston
Very interesting.
Does he want to go somewhere that didn't have the assets/money to trade for him.
Is he waiting for Dallas to have the cap to resign him.
A no trade clause keeps him in the picture come deadline. I don't know what to think of this.

I definitely think he's waiting for Dallas to have the cap space.

I honestly have to say, at $12M per the team and player should embrace a partnership style relationship. It would be more important to me to have an additional quality teammate than to shoot for the moon salary-wise and watch my teammates lose important games. Legacies aren't defined by salary [they can be un-done by salary] and he's already made enough to be financially secure.Army's Mom wrote: ↑24 Jul 2026 09:57 amI definitely think he's waiting for Dallas to have the cap space.

I absolutely agree. He's already earned more than he can reasonably spend, and barring injury will be guaranteed generational wealth on his next deal. What's left to bargain for? Leave a few mil on the table each year so they can afford a supporting cast!DawgDad wrote: ↑24 Jul 2026 10:08 amI honestly have to say, at $12M per the team and player should embrace a partnership style relationship.
