I still cant believe the Oilers let both guys walk i was sure theyd match Broberg and maybe let Holloway go. Then they realize they dont have the NHL depth to contend right now. Wow. Actually feel bad for those fans, how do squander and era where you have McDavid, Leon, RNH, Hyman, Bouchard?Pierre McGuire wrote: ↑13 May 2026 08:29 am If not for Broberg, we’d be seriously hosed on defense. When you are in a salary bind, bad things happen. Ruth and Gehrig will disappear in the record books. Having elite stars can put you in an elite bind in this way. There is only one thing worse, and that is being in a salary bind because of Kyrou and Buchnevich.

The video is from January. Things changed for Broberg and the Blues dramatically over his last 30 games of the season. He became one of the top D’s in the NHL. 19 pts, +15, 24 mins/game. Actually taking over games several times in that span. I expect that contract to end up being great for the Blues.

from an out of town perspective. If I were Broberg, I would go get a sandwich from Goia's. There are sandwiches you can get everywhere, but those are not one of them.clemonsonroots wrote: ↑13 May 2026 09:01 amGive me a sandwhich today...choice comes down to legrand legend, Goia's hot italian trio, or union loafer Roast beef bistro...first world problems...Bubble4427 wrote: ↑13 May 2026 08:37 amNot to derail your awesome post that talks about really important stuff....

Overpay depends on who you're comparing him to. Who has signed recently (since the news of the cap rising) that you're comparing Broberg to?

I'm not making a judgement on if Broberg is overpaid or not. I've not looked into it much. I just forwarded on a video about it because I thought it was useful information. The content creator thought he was overpaid and given too long of a commitment.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑13 May 2026 10:04 am Overpay depends on who you're comparing him to. What I can say is that Kryou and Buchnevich were given too long of contracts, and are not producing like a Stanley Cup roster member. It's so obvious that it makes me question any contract that Army hands out.

So you posted a video about a subject you haven’t looked into and may not agree with because you don’t like the contracts given to 2 other players by the same gm? Wow that’s some enlightening stuff.a smell of green grass wrote: ↑13 May 2026 11:36 amI'm not making a judgement on if Broberg is overpaid or not. I've not looked into it much. I like when I can tell just by a threads title that it was started by this [fork]ing clown. Every (bleep) day. The same [shirt] over and over and over again.

Yup - next time I'll skip asking for clarification and just have somebody kick me as hard as they can in the junk - it will save time and be much less painful to endure. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑13 May 2026 12:13 pm So you posted a video about a subject you haven’t looked into and may not agree with because you don’t like the contracts given to 2 other players by the same gm? I'm posting other's opinions, just for FYI. I'm not responsible, nor do I endorse the content. It's just information to know. Sometimes, I have opinions to chime in with, and I will make that very clear. Not on this one.BalotelliMassive wrote: ↑13 May 2026 12:28 pmYup - next time I'll skip asking for clarification and just have somebody kick me as hard as they can in the junk - it will save time and be much less painful to endure. The Average Gatsby wrote: ↑13 May 2026 12:13 pm So you posted a video about a subject you haven’t looked into and may not agree with because you don’t like the contracts given to 2 other players by the same gm? Re: Blues Analysis - Overpay for Broberg?
This panel is a good example where uninformed expert opinions are fading in value over AI. When it was said...... "You know, 15 points, $8 million a year." At that point I am going to disregard the opinion. They gave Parayko's points total (18) and then commented on Broberg's cap hit.
This took 10 seconds via ChaptGPT to verify and ask "Where does Philip Broberg rank among NHL defenseman 2025-26 using stats from NHL.com".
Simply put, you need to BE an expert... not just stay in a Holiday Inn.
The answer to that from ChaptGPT. Honestly, a way more sunshine view than I would give as a fan. It even implies that contract is a great deal.
Philip Broberg is not currently viewed as a top-10 NHL defenseman league-wide for 2025-26, but statistically he has moved into the “strong top-pair / emerging top-25” tier.
Using NHL.com and league statistical comparisons:
Broberg has about 33 points (6G, 27A) in 2025-26.
That offensive production places him roughly in the 20–35 range among NHL defensemen in total points, depending on games played and current standings.
NHL.com’s own analyst rankings of the league’s best defensemen did not place Broberg in the Top 20 entering the season; names like Cale Makar, Quinn Hughes, Zach Werenski, and Rasmus Dahlin were clearly ahead.
However, Broberg grades much better in several defensive-impact and skating metrics than his raw point totals suggest. Reddit and analytics discussions during 2025 regularly placed him among the league’s better shutdown defenders and transition skaters.
A reasonable 2025-26 ranking based on combined:
points,
ice time,
two-way impact,
transition play,
and NHL.com perception
would be:
Category Estimated NHL Rank
Offensive production among defensemen ~25th–35th
Defensive impact / shutdown value ~10th–20th
Overall all-around defenseman ~20th–30th
So the short answer is:
Broberg has probably established himself as a legitimate top-25 NHL defenseman in 2025-26, with upside to crack the top 15 if his offense continues to rise.

Maybe Hasso Plattner will trade us Celebrini for some financial backing for his musical, too!
