Yes. Having the same teams be dominant every year hurts the overall interest in baseball.

Re: Such an absolute joke (Dodgers)
Balanced TV revenue and a set payroll limit. These two things ensure the game survives no matter the market. Every team fairly shares in the lucrative tv deals and no one team can spend more than the other. Those lucky teams in large markets that can draw 3 mill+ a year can make extra bank in jacked up stadium prices and gear sales. Make a budget based on 162 games a year and then playoffs become bonus money. The players have to accept there will be a balance to be had when they seek those 30+ mill a year deals as they will have to understand the team around them will be less than it could be because of their high salary. It does not punish the players as some will argue because before you argue a player should have the right to earn 45 mill a year you should answer why? Anyone of those players should be thanking god daily they get to earn even 20 mill a season playing a game that will set them up to one day be worth hundreds of millions of dollars. Never to have to work a day in their life like us poor saps out here doing stuff we hate to just feed our families, living in debt non stop. At 10 mill a year a player gets to live comfortably in a $750,000 home in a swanky neighborhood driving several $80,000 cars. His wife does not have to work and his kids get to go to the best schools. He is living debt free with retirement and investment accounts working his dead money. By the age of 40 his playing career will be over and he will have earned easily over $100 mill in his career. Even after agents and taxes he still has 20 mill set aside in accounts, his kids are graduating and over another $10 mill in real money deals with real estate and investments.
Yeah, personally I really have no tears for the poor ball player not allowed to earn $40 mill a year. When you look at this scenario does it not feel just sickening that a great player like Ohtani will retire one day a billionaire from all of his licensing and marketing deals in addition to his deferred money. Just for playing a game. What a planet we live on.

Any team that is so good that Tommy Edman hits at the bottom of the order is putting a good and fun product on the field for their fans.

The Dodgers/Yankees have world wide brands…love them, or hate them...they are the face of MLB

This was a nice off season 500 page topic.ShakeyWalton wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 22:50 pm It’s a joke. They are spending dough nobody can and it’s not fun. The 90’s and 2000’s Sox and Yanks spending was fun because it wasn’t nearly this out of control. I don’t even recognize their WS wins the last few years. AWFUL for sports. Absolutely awful

I'd still take the 04 or 05 Cardinals over this dodgers team...tokyojoe1954 wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 12:30 pm Any team that is so good that Tommy Edman hits at the bottom of the order is putting a good and fun product on the field for their fans.

Yes. The 04 team might be the best I’ve seen going back to 1967. The 05 team might have been better.Bushiro wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 13:02 pmI'd still take the 04 or 05 Cardinals over this dodgers team...tokyojoe1954 wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 12:30 pm Any team that is so good that Tommy Edman hits at the bottom of the order is putting a good and fun product on the field for their fans.
The serious pain I feel for 04 is- how can the best team in Cardinal history? Never lead an inning in a four game WS.
We never led.

Re: Such an absolute joke (Dodgers)
The big market big money teams need other teams to play. Those teams need enough fans and revenue to make it worthwhile for the owners. Having little or no chance to get to the playoffs and possibly win out does not build fan bases in 20+ cities. Revenue is flat or down and it gets worse and worse.
They need salary cap and bottom- if teams cannot get to the bottom the franchises need to move. Of course there are exceptions. Brewers have a small market but loyal fans and their front office has done a great job of fielding a good team on a budget. Last year the best record but they still got swept by the Dodgers.
Fine tune the TV revenue. Regional sports networks overpaid for TV rights (which allowed bigger salaries) but the RSNs could not get enough advertising revenue to make it work and I don't see that changing. Cardinals are getting $40 million less over the last two years.

The Cards just need to spend some money on a few free agents to mix with their young talent and they will be okay. They don't have to be in the top five in payroll just middle of the road.ScotchMIrish wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 12:00 pm Unless MLB gets serious about a payroll cap and deferred contracts the Dodgers will surpass the Cardinals with most NL World Series wins.

more if they could afford to keep the talent they draft. When Skenes pitches the majority of the baseball world watches.45s wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 12:34 pmDon’t buy that…JuanAgosto wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 12:18 pmYes. Having the same teams be dominant every year hurts the overall interest in baseball.

Not sure that was the best team ever but Edmonds and Rolen going 1-30 was likely a factor in them getting swept.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 13:05 pmYes. The statement should read ....."is ABLE TO put a good and fun product on the field for their fans".tokyojoe1954 wrote: ↑29 Mar 2026 12:30 pm Any team that is so good that Tommy Edman hits at the bottom of the order is putting a good and fun product on the field for their fans.
Only one team has unlimited resources that they can give Kyle freaking Tucker 40 million more than his qualifying offer. That alone should highlight the problem.

I enjoy watching them play. They are playing within the rules and are exciting. Don't blame them
