Roycroft isn’t a major league pitcher.

One game, and Roycroft proves that he is darn near worthless and should never don a Cards uniform again. But he will.

It is almost an unworldly event having to move players on and off the roster. I mean trying to figure out what to do with the Musial, Mays, Mantle, Aaron's, etc is undaunting.
You would think that is why Bloom, FO personnel, and Marmot get the 6 figure paychecks to do the tough jobs. Evidently NOT.

The roster excuse is one of the worst. It's sophistry.ilcubuffs wrote: ↑27 Mar 2026 16:22 pm It is almost an unworldly event having to move players on and off the roster. I mean trying to figure out what to do with the Musial, Mays, Mantle, Aaron's, etc is undaunting.

Wow, Roycroft’s minor league numbers were terrible. I don’t know if Gastelum is the answer but anyone would likely be better. For those saying Roycroft being on the team doesn’t really matter…how many offensive explosions can this team expect when he pitches to make up for it? They’re going to need it. The guy just doesn’t belong.ClassicO wrote: ↑22 Mar 2026 22:19 pmOk. He has 3 seasons in the minors. 10-9. 3.66 ERA and 1.186 WHIP -- and oh yeah, 191 Ks in 140 IP. And in that one AA season with the 4.02 ERA, he struck out 92 in 62 innings -- with a 35.4% K%, and 6.5% BB%. So I'm not worried about a reliever's ERA when the peripherals are that good.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑22 Mar 2026 21:43 pmI don’t think it’s so much starting the clock as it is he had a 4.02 ERA at AA last season hasn’t thrown a pitch at Memphis and they probably aren’t just going to skip him a level and create a roster spot for him based on 4 spring training innings
Roycroft? Career Minors = 4.47 ERA and an awful 1.585 WHIP. And his brief stints at MLB last year were nothing short of horrific = 5.56 ERA and 1.584 WHIP.

Bruihl, Roycroft, Fernandez, and Raquet don’t belong on the 40 man roster.

Raquel is a 30 year old who has all of 2 innings pitched at the major league level. In 2 years at AAA he had an ERA of
5.57, with a WHIP of 1.576. Bruihl is a 28 year old who last season had an ERA of 5.27 and WHIP of 1.902 with Toronto.

Should be a fluid season roster-wise.
If Roycroft survives the season it’ll be disappointing.

100%
I'm not sure why the slug Roycroft is yet again on the team, guy's a stiff.
I'd even take Graceffo over him.

Agreed.
But that is true many #7 and #8 BP arms.
Hard for me to care much the first week of the season about an arm that will primarily be used when the team is several runs behind.
There will be many arms rotating through the back end of the BP in the months ahead and Gastelum will get a look.

I believe they want Graceffo pitching regularly and with multi-inning stints.rockondlouie wrote: ↑28 Mar 2026 09:11 am100%

They are not quite ready to give up on him as a starter and therefore do not want to consign him to short relief just yet.
When he comes back to STL, his assignment will probably be long relief in the middle innings.

That’s the problem. They are treating the 40 man as concrete not fluid. We could dfa Roycroft today and no one would claim him. Yet for some reason they are scare to “lose anyone “.Cusecards wrote: ↑27 Mar 2026 22:22 pmShould be a fluid season roster-wise.
