A little like deciding MLB extra-inning games by creating artificial base runners on second base.....

Great to see Team USA beat Canada for Olympic Gold in ice hockey.
Does anyone know if there is a Summer Olympics gold medal for baseball - and if active MLB players are permitted to play?
That would be more interesting than the utterly ridiculous World Baseball classic.
Japan vs. USA for Olympic gold would be a summer Olympics highlight.
I can think of an easy way to make this work.
But for now - congrats to Team USA for the hockey gold.
(That should be sufficient to keep this thread active and on topic).

I am not sure if MLB players will play. Part of that is when it is played. Right in the middle of the season. WBC is during spring training so easier to play.
That was part of the reason this was the first time in like 12 years, NHL players played in the Olympics.
Be interesting to see how they can worked that out. Otherwise, it will be a bunch of minor league players.
Personally I preferred when the pros couldn't play. That's what made the 1980 win over USSR so great. A bunch of college kids against essentially a pro Soviet team.

And....to cycle it back to baseball I don’t like the cheesy ghost runner 10th inning nonsense.
I understand that they’re trying to eliminate the 14 and 15 inning games but I would wait until the 11th or 12th before going to that ghost format.

I agree. Maybe play 3 innings with the stupid ghost runner and then play real baseball. These guys are paid big bucks, so once a month they can play a 15 inning game and lose a little sleep. They are flying on private charters so it doesn't matter when the plane leaves. Play the game the way it was designed to be played.... dinosaur rant over, now get off my lawn!
