With 6+ years of MLB experience (2020–2025), he provides solid contact hitting, respectable power, and a high baseball IQ, offering roughly 3+ WAR per 162 games.

Defensive Profile
Elite Utility: Primarily plays 3B, but capable at 2B, SS, and 1B.
Gold Glove Caliber: Won the 2022 AL Gold Glove for third base with 14 Defensive Runs Saved.
Range/Arm: Above-average defender with good instincts; ranked in the 87th percentile in Outs Above Average.
Improvements: Showed major improvements with the glove through 2025, posting a +3 Run Fielding Value (75th percentile).

Offensive Profile
Contact/Approach: Solid contact hitter with a manageable strikeout rate (around 16-17% in top seasons) and a respectable eye at the plate.
Power: Primarily a gap-to-gap hitter with the ability to pull for home runs. Increased his flyball rate in recent seasons to enhance power, posting a .237 ISO in 2018 (Mexico) and maintaining good power numbers in MLB.
Consistency: A career 104-105 wRC+ hitter who is generally consistent against both RHP and LHP, often acting as a reliable starter or elite utility player.

Scouting Summary
Urías profiles as a high-IQ, veteran utility player who can start regularly. He has transitioned from a fringe prospect into a reliable big-league regular with elite infield defense. His ability to hit for average and play multiple spots effectively makes him highly valuable.
Key 2025 Performance Data
Fielding: 87th percentile in Outs Above Average.
Value: 3.3 WAR average per 162 games.
Utility: Played all four infield spots, with elite performance at 3B
Career .257 hitter. Man, the definition of hitting for average really has changed.

I think it more so has do with Saggese getting more outfield time this year
then Gorman is probably thinking "there goes some of my playing time".
(wouldn't surprise me especially when oppo starting pitcher is a LH)

Yep! And Gorman could also see time at DH if he actually hits any.

When I first read this I thought another infielder????? But I think it might be a real smart move. I think it is less than 50/50 Gorman works out. We had some replacement possibilities but not sure third fits any of them. I do hope Saggese can find a spot in the outfield. Also it is sort of ironic we trade a 30+ third baseman and sign another.

The only way this move makes any sense is if they want saggese to play every day so will send him to Memphis otherwise it makes zero sense
Fermin replacement more likely

Possibly that too it still seems silly though if they like saggases potential they should move him around the infield and outfield and use Fermin as the back up that doesn’t get
Much playing time. This will cut significantly into saggases time unless noot is going to be out a significant portion of the season and he will get a lot of playing time in left. As it stands they definitely won’t be able to see what saggase can and can’t do in such limited playing time

Very bad news for Saggese, Fermin, and Torres.

Ramon Urias was in the Cards system. They signed him as a 24 year old free agent from Mexico.

The Baltimore Orioles claimed him off waivers from STL in February 2020. The Cards had recently signed Johnny Hellweg and claimed Ricardo Sanchez off waivers and also wanted to make room for Brad Miller so they had no room for Urias.

He proceeded to be an 11.2 bWAR and 6.2 fWAR player for the Orioles. He's better than Gorman, IMHO, but I expect they will play Gorman anyway.

There you go, Brian Ramos! We would rather keep Chris Roycroft than you! Now you can be an Oriole, too.

If this is a minor league deal, then it is a very good signing.

If this is a major league deal and he's getting $5M or more, then we saved nothing by dealing Arenado! :?

I think it means the cardinals would prefer Urias over Ramos. Keeping Roycroft pushard and Kent probably means they are gambling one of them will click since they all have big arms and become a good reliever
