Lonnie Smith LF Willie McGee CF and Hendrivkbin RF

Lou Brock LF Bake McBride CF and Reggie Smith RF was very good
Brock, Flood and Shannon.
Was this outfield better than Brock, Flood, and Maris? I know it was the end of his career, but Maris was known as an excellent fielder.

With Church, and/or Baez, I hear, with Scott forms a good three some. Most teams Cant match the consistency.

Infield. Winn is GG caliber. JJ may be. At second, you are strong all the way up the middle to Catcher.

With JJ at third, maybe, if he sticks, a GG caliber left side, with a very good second baseman- Torres Saggese
I think Church is 4th or 5th OF at best and won't challenge Scott for starting role in CF.

Baez needs to continue the strides he made last year and then challenge for OF starting role by 2027. Thes are significant "Iffs". Then Tai Pete needs to follow Baez on his development path.

Herrera has athleticism for LF. Could be decent defensively if he got reps out there. But they will insist on catcher even though 3 other Catching prospects are coming.

Oh yeah Nootbar is still here. Maybe you assume a trade here? Also last chance for Walker to show as a Cardinal.

The Cardinals need another prospect to develop at 3B or 2B. JJW will man one of those positions.

Last chance for Gorman to show. Saggese is a util guy, sorry.

To me it is becoming clearer the team is focused on a saturation model, currently young pitchers, and middle infielders.

This is a defensive discussion.

Infield- Burleson JJ Winn Gorman/Torres/Saggesse. Not the best. Burleson Torres Winn JJ potential gold glove infield, minus first base. But still good. The debate as usual is JJ- second or third.

Outfield. Seems to be the black hole of the team. However. If Church is a challenge to Scott, why not start in left. Scott in center. Walker in right. This covers 70 percent of the outfield. Walker plays a league average outfield, has the arm, and is or will get better.

This setup is young atheletic and cost controlled. This is based on in house assets, no trades.

About .500 but exciting for a rebuild.
Walker is far from average defensively
My hope is that gap narrows. Any improvement is a way forward.
yes - we have all been waiting a couple years for some improvement - I fear he is what he is at this point
Ya know, o hear ya. You’re probably correct. I got this feeling he has a nice bounce back year, and I feel the same for Scott to emerge a bit. Both of these happen, it’s a much more exciting season.
you could be right about being .500 if those 2 improve

Re: infield prospects after JJW.

The Cardinals could switch Tai Pete back to infield. He was blocked there by better prospects in the Mariners org. Then it's...

Yairo Padilla
Jesus Baez
Deniel Ortiz

None of these guys are ready for the majors soon. So fir 2026 it's back to the guys previously listed

Wetherholt's minor league errors were not an indication of gold glove. Burleson probably not a great defender either. Winn definitely.
