32nd: Trevor Condon OF - HS
50th: Denton Lord RHP - HS
68th: Will Yow - SS - HS
72nd: Eli Herst RHP - HS

Good question and glad you asked ... Baseball America had to say this ....
Baseball America rates the 2026 MLB draft class as exceptionally strong, potentially one of the best in years, featuring a deep mix of high-upside, up-the-middle position players and talented high school pitchers. It is considered a top-heavy class with no obvious weaknesses, strengthened by a strong 2023 high school group now entering the draft pool from college.
So that's good news for a team with multiple choices as the Cardinals do .

The two best draft pundits in the industry both say it's a deep college hitters draft up top....sorta like 2023 (that draft had college hitters with at least an "A Tier Grade" all the way to 18 pick, we got Davis at 18, hasn't worked out, per se, but there's still time.
And it's THE BEST Prep draft...perhaps ever. Prep hitters and especially Prep pitchers...the amount of High Control with this crop of HS pitchers has never been seen before.
So...yeah, this is a really good draft, it's going to be interesting to see how it plays out. We might go deep with HS talent on day 1... our first 6 picks are on day 1.

Herst has that tall frame you want in a pitcher. PNW prep star....I think he'll go higher than 72....we'll see how the spring turns out.
I don't have much on Herst's pitches, other than he commands his slider and change better. Low 90's Fastball apparently
Lord is a Adam Wainwright clone....tall (taller than AW), and a bit skinny. Epic Control for a youngter.....decent FB, decent curve....Pounds the Strikezone

The scouting report for Herst that I read says his fastball sits 88-93 MPH but plays up due to his elite extension. Best secondary pitch is a low 80's changeup with heavy fade. He's a Vandy commit.

I'm not a Sawyer Strosnider fan...but I'd live with it. If Gracia, Reese, Hacopian are available, I pray we take one of them.
If Sawyer can get those walks up to his K totals, then I'll be a happier camper....too free of swinger for me.

On Day 1...we should "HIT" on 3 of 6...that would be my standard with this depth of a draft....time will tell, but I'd go as far as 4 of 6 as a "HIT".
"HIT" means they make it and make a splash at the MLB level. ie: Winn and Burleson would be considered as making a Splash. Both were taken in the day 1 window. Still waiting on Walker's splash, if it comes, but he has "Made it" to the MLB level.
Remember this, Goldfan....if you take the HS route in the draft... then you HAVE to be patient with that prospect. PATIENCE.

FYI on the draft numbers....when Gallen signs, he'll bump either the last number to 87, or the last 5 numbers by 1. It depends on his contract.... $50million above, we go up 1 pick on the last 5. Below $50million, then it's only the last pick goes to 87

Bader, but the fans didn't have the patience for him.....we were spoiled. Hell, remember Colby Rasmus? He was a 4-5 WAR player, but the fans didn't like the Batting Average. Sigh...it begat a World Series in the trade....so there's that.

And how many top 100 prospects become top 100 MLB players as ranked by whoever put out the list last week?
Historically, somewhere between 3-6.
