Re: Bloom panicked
Get over it , the Cards can sign Donovan as a free agent in two years when they are ready to compete and not waste the next two years here while they suck. Meanwhile they got a Carlos Martinez with a brain, two high draft picks in a very deep draft plus a high upside 20 year old with tools to be a superstar. Also a decent outfielder prospect from Tampa.
Bloom did a great job in the deal.

We are at $88.80665 right now including payments to Gray, Contreras & Arenado for the 26 man payroll. I figure JoJo will be traded soon and Nootbaar as soon as he shows he's healthy that would be another $9.61.Midrange Jay wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 19:15 pmGot to get that payroll below $60 million.zoiks wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 19:11 pm Bloom didn’t panic. If you haven’t been following along, the Cardinals’ local tv contract decreased about $50m per year from its peak of a couple years ago. Dewitt told Bloom to dump any payroll he could, so that’s what he’s done this offseason. The Mariners were always the team that made the most sense for a Donovan trade.

TWO 2026 comp picks #68 and #72An Old Friend wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 18:17 pmHe got a 2023 1st, 2023 2nd, 2024 1st, and a 2026 comp pick.
That’s a lot of value for a good not great player with 2 years of control.

Oh yeah. Didn’t count our players on other teams. Who wants season tickets?!?!brock118 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 19:23 pmWe are at $88.80665 right now including payments to Gray, Contreras & Arenado for the 26 man payroll. I left off the blue font I actually liked the trade. I was hoping they could have got Montes but I’m sure that was a deal breaker for the marinersAn Old Friend wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 18:17 pmHe got a 2023 1st, 2023 2nd, 2024 1st, and a 2026 comp pick.

Plus....the fact that the biggest imbeciles on CT are “panning” the moves....only makes me more giddy with excitement! LOL

He did not panic.
But he sure failed to move the needle.
What he obtained the organization already had on hand.

I'm concerned with a lack of elite RH MOTO bats either in MLB or in our system anywhere? At some point we need to use these trades or draft picks to obtain what we lack and desperately need, not just the theoretical best player available.BrockFloodMaris wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 18:46 pmThere will be plenty of folks on here that focus almost entirely on these three things:Goldfan wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 18:19 pmAOF, who give a chit where they were drafted…..are they any good now??????An Old Friend wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 18:17 pmHe got a 2023 1st, 2023 2nd, 2024 1st, and a 2026 comp pick.

The 2026 MLB 26-man roster
The 2026 MLB payroll
The 2026 MLB win/loss record
These folks will not be happy through this rebuild for quite some time. The immediate focus and priority for Bloom and Company are really none of those three things. This rebuild is going to take some time (years).
Mike Sirota was mentioned before for Donny, and/or Jojo or Nado, yet we didn't pull that off.

Your lack of baseball acumen becomes more obvious with every post.
As is often noted.
And your responses were the same as they are right now…..don’t lecture me on the ability to see and assess baseball talent

This trade was poorly conceived.
Bloom's prior moves were much, much smarter.

Bloom panicked. He saw SF got a 2B and knew he only had one team left and made the quickest deal possible.
Bloom was horrible with the Red Sox and hes horrible now.
Also, can he not evaluate hitters at all?

Lol just because you heard it mentioned before doesn’t mean it was actually offered it. Cardinals are as likely to asked for him and they said no as the dodgers actually offering him for Donnie attaching arenado to Donny would have lowered the return. If the dodgers trade Sirota it will be in a package for headliner like skubal. The dodgers already have edman as a utility guy anyway they aren’t going to over pay for Donovan but people are going to be delusional and convince themselves the cardinals were offered all of these great prospects and bloom said nah I’ll take these guys instead lolCarp4Cy wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 19:50 pmI'm concerned with a lack of elite RH MOTO bats either in MLB or in our system anywhere? Re: Bloom panicked
Still he's probably the type hitter we need to target. With all the P and C prospects we now have, could have swapped some of them as well to sweeten the pot and make it happen.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑02 Feb 2026 20:11 pmLol just because you heard it mentioned before doesn’t mean it was actually offered it.
