They are all suspects until they advance. But you have to have something to work with to reach the finish line. Having enough farm arms has been our issue for years.... I don't believe that is true any more.

You mean Mathews, McGreevy, Thomson, Hence, Rom, Roby haven’t been adequate “hope for the future” the last couple years?? Now we have a different crop of mostly middling or oft injured bodies to dream of Cy Youngs…..

BINGO huge!

Carpenter had a significant shoulder injury (torn labrum) that sidelined him for the entire 2003 season, but St. Louis took a chance on him, rehabbed him, and was rewarded when he became their ace and won the Cy Young in 2005. --espn

I wasn’t posting here then. And Carp was a successful ML pitcher. Not the same.

None of the pitchers the Cardinals have acquired have anything resembling the stuff Carpenter had before the Cardinals signed him. He was a 15th overall draft pick and already had several seasons of MLB experience. The Cardinals got Carpenter because back then ownership was willing to spend money, so they paid Carpenter for a year while he rehabbed his shoulder. Ownership is no longer willing to spend, so they’re now selling a “rebuild” to the mouth breathing fans. The current state of the starting rotation and lineup has to be the worst for the Cardinals to start a season in decades, if not ever.

What really stood out to me is Cards lack of prospect depth compared to Boston.
They said Yhoiker Fajardo was Red Sox 29th ranked prospect and he is now the Cards 9th ranked prospect.

McGreevy is already in the rotation.
Mathews could very well be soon?
Thompson, Hence, Roby, and Rom have all been held back due mostly to injuries.

Not sure how to help you understand. Fangraph says we are the best farm system in MLB. Isn't your hypothesis that this minor league pitcher "so low on the Red Sox farm" and so high on ours preposterous?

To clarify who and what was actually said, here is a quote from TCN:

Fajardo, age 19, ended his 2025 season with the Red Sox Single-A affiliate in Salem. He made four starts, posting a record of 0-1 with a 0.44 ERA. He was the Red Sox’ no. 9 prospect for 2026 according to Baseball America.

P.S. If he isn't the 9th best pitching prospect in the Cardinal farm, how can he be the 9th rated prospect?
