C. Bloom
Red Sox minor league system was the worst in baseball (dead last in 2019), he re-built it into a top 5 by 2023, very much like he's done to ours!

Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
This is the most optimistic I've been about our future since the early Whitey years!
Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
So when Donny heads there…..what can we expect back?
Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
So at some point he’s gone to be able to start trading all these surplus prospects for near all star level vets like Gray and Contreras and get other teams to pay for some of their salaries and our roster will get instantly better? Is that the LT plan ?rockondlouie wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 10:12 amRE:Goldfan wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 09:23 am How many elite pitching prospects did Boston have to be able to, SO FAR, trade or lose:

You're mistaking several pitching prospects/suspects for "elite pitching prospects".Goldfan wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 09:23 am How many elite pitching prospects did Boston have to be able to, SO FAR, trade or lose:

Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
Reminds me of the late Jocketty era. Cleaning out the largesse on the farm to get ML pitchers for the here and now. That can lead to the 2007 Cardinal situation where the pantry was bone dry. Boston has money but their sustainability has always been questionable.Goldfan wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 09:23 am How many elite pitching prospects did Boston have to be able to, SO FAR, trade or lose:

Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
They are all suspects until they advance. But you have to have something to work with to reach the finish line. Having enough farm arms has been our issue for years.... I don't believe that is true any more.zoiks wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 10:50 amYou're mistaking several pitching prospects/suspects for "elite pitching prospects".Goldfan wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 09:23 am How many elite pitching prospects did Boston have to be able to, SO FAR, trade or lose:

Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
No, I’m just throwing it out there that there’s on way in Hades that the Sox have a large stable of elite pitching prospects and even a fatter chance that they’re sending those to STLzoiks wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 10:50 amYou're mistaking several pitching prospects/suspects for "elite pitching prospects".Goldfan wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 09:23 am How many elite pitching prospects did Boston have to be able to, SO FAR, trade or lose:

Like buying lottery tickets the hope is you find one or two "gems" among all the prospects, one's who will add to the young core of M. Winn, JJW, L. Doyle etal.
By then (2027/28) BDWJr will then open the wallet and Bloom can then either sign free agents or trade from his (hopefully) hoard of prospects for QUALITY VETERANS who are 8-10 years younger than S. Gray & WillyC (think Walt bringing in C. Carpenter, S. Rolen, E. Renteria and J. Edmonds type players in their primes).
Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
You mean Mathews, McGreevy, Thomson, Hence, Rom, Roby haven’t been adequate “hope for the future” the last couple years?? Now we have a different crop of mostly middling or oft injured bodies to dream of Cy Youngs…..hugeCardfan wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 10:59 amThey are all suspects until they advance. Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
Or instead of pocketing 200-250mil by ‘28…..BDW could’ve spent now and supplemented the current core MLB team, still receive some middling Trade prospects for Donny, Bloom continues to draft and develop minors…..rockondlouie wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 11:03 amNot the plan carp.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 10:46 amSo at some point he’s gone to be able to start trading all these surplus prospects for near all star level vets like Gray and Contreras and get other teams to pay for some of their salaries and our roster will get instantly better? But the route taken SAVES BDW the money typed above, guarantees nothing, and puts off his need to spend years off in the future. Because he will need to spend to be competitive whether in ‘26 or ‘28-29…..

Re: Boston stockpile of elite pitching prospects
That would've been great GF............. as I've said all along that unlike Mo, C. Bloom is smart enough to walk (re-build the minor league system) and chew gum (still field a competitive team in 2026).Goldfan wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 11:10 amOr instead of pocketing 200-250mil by ‘28…..BDW could’ve spent now and supplemented the current core MLB team, still receive some middling Trade prospects for Donny, Bloom continues to draft and develop minors…..rockondlouie wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 11:03 amNot the plan carp.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 10:46 amSo at some point he’s gone to be able to start trading all these surplus prospects for near all star level vets like Gray and Contreras and get other teams to pay for some of their salaries and our roster will get instantly better? But unfortunately he doesn't control the payroll, BDWJr does and he's made it clear since 2024 that he's going to reduce payroll before the CBA expires after next season.
I think this was his plan all along.
After the new CBA is in place, then let's hope he re-opens the wallet.
(And we're not going to receive some "middling" prospect for Donny, he should bring back your "gem"
