There goes draft position

Re: There goes draft position
I have no issue with getting a high draft pick if we play badly. I find the concept of intentionally tanking to get that pick abhorrent.
They are getting paid to play a professional sport, so should be playing to the best of their ability. If that play is not sufficient, so be it.

Re: There goes draft position
If the Blues find themselves with a Top 5 pick at the end of the season so be it, get a great kid and lets hope next season is better. But to be negative toward moves that could help the team now and in the coming seasons because they jeopardize a Top 5 pick gets tiresome. The constant anti-Army droning on and on is what turns most posters off.SameOldBlues wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 08:23 am A question for those of you who vomit in your mouth anytime someone brings up the possibility of havin a great draft pick…is it Ok to have an optimistic viewpoint towards both sides of the argumentative fence?

If the Blues finally start playing well consistently, and make the playoffs and actually do some damage for the first time since 2019, then I presume the “High draft picks suck” crowd will welcome fans to enjoy the games?
But if the Blues continue to suck most of the season and prove they’re incapable of getting out of the hole they’ve dug…is it ok if some fans find a bright spot in what would be a very disappointing season by looking forward to a high draft pick and all the possibilities of getting a potential superstar, while discussing possible picks along the way, instead of constantly talkin about how awesome the latest waiver wire pickup is and how they’re going to turn the season around? Or is that just too blasphemous for your liking?
Im trying to understand why some almost seem literally offended when fans talk about the potential and possibilities of havin a high draft pick. Its weird to me…cause both scenarios are examples of fans supporting the Blues. Unless all of the uproar and incessant whining about high draft picks has more to do with a certain one or two (well, really just one) poster’s constant posts about ‘Top 5’ picks is where the exhaustion comes from, which I could understand more, but I still wouldn’t understand people’s inability to separate the actual potentially very rewarding topic in an otherwise dismal season, from the goober who chronically uses the subject to be divisive.
Thanks for your precious time regarding this very unimportant matter, and Ill be at the Hardee’s on Zumbehl in St Charles today to sign this and other long winded books Ive written.
Stenberg is a great Blues prospect we really dont know what his ceiling is, same with Snuggerud, Dvorsky, Hofer even Mailloux. Adding Berggren may have been a master stroke. All agree Blues need skill players vs bottom 6 JAGs as long as they are willing to play hard and win pucks. Maybe by mid to late January Berggren is a ghost who floats around looking for outlet passes we will see, its just as likely Berggren at 25 cements himself into the Blues top 9 and like Stenberg, pushes a JAG off the roster which ultimately is the goal. Point being this team can very easily draft in the mid first round, draft well as we have already seen and return to contention without a few really dismal seasons.

Re: There goes draft position
Blues draft Villeneuve we finally have our Quinn Hughes or they draft Ryan Lin or Chase Reid or the 6+ Dmen lumped into the 6thru11 spot. Plus the Blues are only 4 points from last place so let's not get too carried away by their recent wins. All comes down to which team shows up and which goalie is hot.
Re: There goes draft position
I try to look at the game like the players do, not a bunch of fans. Right now, and for really all of the season, I'm not seeing reasons to throw in any towel or give up on them getting to the top of whatever game they can play. I want to see that game each night they play from day one of the season until it's over. I have yet to see this team give up and I respect that.SameOldBlues wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 08:23 am A question for those of you who vomit in your mouth anytime someone brings up the possibility of havin a great draft pick…is it Ok to have an optimistic viewpoint towards both sides of the argumentative fence?

I don't care about odds. Every single year I look and wait and cheer for a Stanley Cup season...as I am doing right now. With the team where it is that means get to step 1. Do all you can to get to the play offs. From there, I will have no problem knowing what to do next.
I will never support cheering for a loss or opposing a trade to strengthen or strategically stripping a team down to its bones for years for "futures" and I'm grateful the Blues have shared that view, for whatever reason, over most all of their years.

Also, I got the sarcasm and appreciated that for heading it off at the pass. But while I'm at it, Vrana is an incomparable example for just about any other player acquired in the past many years.
Re: There goes draft position
The only way we would retain a "good" draft position is to trade away players you want to still build around which just sets you back further. The players/coaches are going to give their best night in night out. It didn't look so good early in the season but now it's trending to what we expected from them going into the season. They're not Cup contenders and don't think anyone expected them to be, but there was talent there to certainly expect they would be in the playoffs or on the cusp at worst.

Re: There goes draft position
Blues are three points out of a wild card and four points out of dead last. They've also played more games than every team behind them. This is still a bottom ten team make no mistake. The league is dreadfully average this year outside of a very few teams. Only Colorado, Dallas, Minnesota, and Carolina look like real threats so far. We know Edmonton will get back there and they're starting to turn it around. Other than that, it's a middling league.
Re: There goes draft position
Don't lump me into any “High draft picks suck” crowd; I have absolutely nothing against having a high draft pick. I simply don't believe in the concept of actively rooting for a team to lose.SameOldBlues wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 08:23 am A question for those of you who vomit in your mouth anytime someone brings up the possibility of havin a great draft pick…is it Ok to have an optimistic viewpoint towards both sides of the argumentative fence?

Re: There goes draft position
For the record...
I don't actively root for the Blues to lose.
Purposeful tanking is not even possible for any team.
I'm for playing your young talent -- no matter how poorly they perform.
I'm against bringing in "hungry VRANAS" that have one purpose: Win games late regular season to keep VRANA in the NHL, and VRANA has ZERO CHANCE to hold a roster spot on the Blues for more than a 1/2 year.
