Re: Stenberg and Breggen
I hope Stenberg sticks. We need more players who care and less floaters.
Still not even remotely sold on Breggen longterm, but anything we get till he reverts to his mean is a bonus.

Re: Stenberg and Breggen
I really don't know much about Berggren or his career. Sometimes these players need a fresh start to find themselves. Sometimes there are other issues that they can't get past. You have to like his play so far but I don't expect him to be on the roster next year. If we get some good play out of him with all the injuries than that is a bonus.lidstrom5 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 06:51 amDon't forget another Detroit castoff the Blues picked up Vrana. He had 9 goals in his first 13 games and Blues fans were drooling and slobbering over him but he wore out his welcome. Berggren had plenty of chances with the Wings. Maybe the Eastern Conference was just to tough for him over the long haul.PregnantNun wrote: ↑20 Dec 2025 19:53 pm Wasn't Berggren a top prospect for the Wings or am I mistaken? Did they give up on him too early? He looks great.

The guy with 6 seasons under his belt who was joining his 3rd team when he came here? Not super surprising that he busted.lidstrom5 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 06:51 amDon't forget another Detroit castoff the Blues picked up Vrana. Re: Stenberg and Breggen
I believe the Blues have liked Bergern for a while and had been rumored to be interested in him in the past. Vrana had a drug problem in Washington and also had issues in Detroit. Much different situation.
When Holloway, Kyrou, and Snugarud come back one of Bugstad, Joseph,or Stenberg will have to go down, if Fabbri and Bergern keep playing at this level. I could totally see them keeping Bergern.

Holy Frack, You are still alive!!! I used to enjoy your takes on LGW back in the mid 2015s. I have not been on their in years. No fun since you went back East. Vrana had that snow problem that impacted his career - JMO.lidstrom5 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 06:51 amDon't forget another Detroit castoff the Blues picked up Vrana. Re: Stenberg and Breggen
Vrana wasted his own career, Berggren didnt really get a chance the Wings fans say he didnt fit in with McClellan although whats Emmitt Finnie done at ES? Seems like McLennan favored Finnie over Berggren now given a chance in STL Berggren and finally establish himself. But like i said lets check back in a month and see if Berggren is still working hard on the icelidstrom5 wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 06:51 amDon't forget another Detroit castoff the Blues picked up Vrana. So much of sports (and life) is mental. If Breggen and a few others get it in their heads that playing the right way means they can win games and winning is more fun we get some kind of a turnaround. The skill level and size may not be enough but if they play to their potential it will be a lot more fun to watch.
Sorry for those who want to tank. You add new faces and they can produce or not as we have seen. The recent new faces are working and I think that is putting pressure on some of the vets to produce. All good.
Granted a top 5 or even a first round guy has a much better chance of working out but one guy can't carry the whole team if the rest don't get onboard and up their games.

Re: Stenberg and Breggen
Might be a short-term burst by both, but I have to wonder if having such a strong Swedish presence in the locker room and management has helped both of them with the transition. Sunny, Broberg, Steen and Suter (Swiss not Swedish). Either way, they are both exceeding what I expected to see out of them, especially Stenberg. He's a lot faster than I thought from the quick video clips of him.
Re: Stenberg and Breggen
He's been replaced by John Leonard who's better on the boards and has 2 goals since he was brought up from the AHL and leading that league in goals scored.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 11:10 amVrana wasted his own career, Berggren didnt really get a chance the Wings fans say he didnt fit in with McClellan although whats Emmitt Finnie done at ES? Re: Stenberg and Breggen
I think what's interesting about the situation is that both teams (for fans of the teams) may be fine with the move. Berggren, for some reason, had not been able to perform like his rookie season, when he was doing everything right (for a rookie).lidstrom5 wrote: ↑22 Dec 2025 06:31 amHe's been replaced by John Leonard who's better on the boards and has 2 goals since he was brought up from the AHL and leading that league in goals scored.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑21 Dec 2025 11:10 amVrana wasted his own career, Berggren didnt really get a chance the Wings fans say he didnt fit in with McClellan although whats Emmitt Finnie done at ES? He looks every bit the part for the Blues, and your mention of 27 y/o journeyman John Leonard being better on the boards made me think "but Berggren has been one of the Blues' best board players/puck battlers since his arrival."
How, in two seasons, has a rookie 22 y/o 2nd rounder gone from (and I quote the Wings broadcaster from a video I posted in another thread) "room being made for him on the roster" as a hard working 2-way scorer, to a 24 year old who was waived because he doesn't fit in?
You're probably the only one on the board who can provide better insight.
