Schwarber appears to be on the Darrell Evans career track, except that Evans didn't strike out nearly as much. But they both have the ability to walk and hit homers. Had Evans played today, I wonder if they'd lead him off. Adam Dunn is another. He might lead off today.

Philly proved wanted KS. That is one half of the equation. The other half might, maybe,
perhaps was influenced by what dugout Mr Schwarber wanted to be in.

There is a difference between a boss questioning the performance and production
and a boss questioning the player. He called Harper a very good player. He questioned if he
was still providing elite. He should have done that privately period. That's fine to miss as Harper himself missed that
subtle difference with the whole "I bust my but, no one gives more" response. His effort wasn't brought up.
In simple terms like WAR is 2.5-3.5 elite? That's 3 of his last 4 seasons.

We get sensitive with criticism, IMO. We need to understand and practice being
critical of production and performance, and not be personal.

.232/.353/.514, 1 HR every 15 PA or so, 2.75 fWAR per 600 PA as a DH

Then a year or two of a bit less than that:

.220/.335/.475, maybe 2.0 fWAR per 600 PA as a DH

Then down.

The Phillies would probably be doing pretty well to get that. I don't expect him to be worth $150 million over the life of the deal based on his total production, but if the Phillies can win a WS with him, it will have been worth it to them.

I don't know. He just had his best season but it was his walk year and it is not uncommon for players to have a big year in their walk year. He could be an example of a guy who can't play baseball but can sit on the bench and swing a bat a few times a game. When he does taper off he will be a guy striking out 200 times a year and not hitting enough home runs to compensate for the strikeouts. When that happens the Phillies might be able to absorb his contract but a team like the Pirates wouldn't.

If you take his last five years, it wouldn't be at all surprising if he, for example, had:

2026 = 2025 (4.9 fWAR over 724 PA)
2027 = 2024 (3.3 fWAR over 692 PA)
2028 = 2021 (2.7 fWAR over 471 PA, injury)
2029 = 2022 (2.2 fWAR over 669 PA)
2030 = 2023 (0.9 fWAR over 720 PA)

That would, IMO, be a really good outcome for Philadelphia.

The first at bat of the five, the lead off spot, could also be accomplished after hitters one or two. They also would be on base more than a pure lead off.

I agree on maximizing at bats.

So 35 more PA over the season. How many RBI ops missed?? I guarantee it’s much more impactful than 35 more PA
