I'm 40. I don't think people younger than us even know what a forum is, maybe not even what a website is. They only know mobile apps.Adam2 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:20 am Someone did a poll here a while ago and most of the board is in their retirement ages.
Why do you think that is? I'm 41 and i think i'm one of the younger ones on here
possibilities:
-the younger crowd consumes their info more with apps, podcasts?
-Baseball doesn't quite draw in the younger generations like the NFL, NBA does? MLB doesn't seem as cool to them?

They're probably out birdogg'in chicks and rais'in hell.
Don't have time for this foolish nonsense.

I mean spending any longer than a few hours a week (less than 5) on this site is sad.

As for us older ones. We’ve done what we intended to do. There comes a point when hookin and jivin no longer works.
Aging is sad. You’ll see.
How true.

It’s a mere fact that life speeds up but humans slow down. Just can’t keep up. Wisdom from experience allows you to negotiate the slower spots.11WSChamps wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 09:38 amMy man.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:38 amAll this is true. As for sad part, more like aloneness. People leave. Move on. Next thing you know 10 years gets behind you. Almost feels like you missed the starting gun.

My daughter tells me that is very difficult to find men her age aren't mama's boys or whack jobs who think women should be subservient. They don't even know how to do laundry. And she's good looking and gets hit on all the time, but isn't very interested in a lot of them. She has divorced one and dumped several others.
As for her, she's 41 and likes baseball, but the state of the current Cardinals has her interest lagging. And I have to admit mine is lagging as well. I don't like the current state of MLB or the Cardinals.
And she never comes on this forum. Of course. she has a career and is very busy. I think people are right in that younger generations aren't into forums like this. They're into apps on their phones. And they're also into going out and having fun.

They don’t need to talk face to face. It’s not even the process anymore. All they need to do is upload a profile to a dating app and while they’re playing video games, their romantic fates are determined by left/right swipes. If they are attractive, or more importantly, have a strong social media presence, they successfully automate getting laid.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:37 amYounger generations have no balls to talk to a woman face to face...they aren't out bird dogging chicksBully4you wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:33 am Younger guys have more testosterone.

All swipes at the younger generations aside, the simple fact is that those of us who are retired, or at least semi-retired, have more time for this sort of thing. It is also a generational thing, in that those of us who are older tend to write paragraphs. Younger folks are more into the 200 character limits of modern quick social media. It is what they grew up with. We grew up with pencils and paper and letters. Then we got email, which was essentially an instant letter, but still had form and structure, at least at the beginning. I have two son-in-laws, both under 30, who are fine young men. They both will make excellent dads when the time comes. I am not going to condemn the whole younger generation. They have been exposed to different sorts of communication forms their whole lives. My 2 cents.....

You guys are delusional. Nothing has changed with respect to the 'new generation' vs. previous generations. Yes, historical context is different but I would argue that painting them with a broad brush is just as useful now as it was when your generation was the victim of such generalizations.Bully4you wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:43 amWell, if they're not, they ought to be.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:37 amYounger generations have no balls to talk to a woman face to face...they aren't out bird dogging chicksBully4you wrote: ↑01 Dec 2025 08:33 am Younger guys have more testosterone.

There's nothing better than the chase and gain.
But you may be right.
I've seen some really pathetic young men lately.
Maybe I am incorrect about the testosterone levels.
The advent of social media, and multiple other places to express one's opinion, has more than likely led to disinterest in the 'classic' internet forum, and really has nothing to do with whether or not someone lives in their parents' basement, to use the trope.
Re: Why Are Most people on this Board in their 60s, 70s, 80s?
Well, was just down in STL to visit family, and one of my nieces that lives in Arizona that grew up a Cards fan has 9 month old twin boys that are in the high 90% for height and weight for their age and are very close to walking, and a 4 year old boy that hyperactive doesn't do justice for. She also has a great job so she's up at 4am some days of the week to get the kids off to daycare. I know basketball is both her and her 6' 6" husbands focus, so I mentioned if they'd also try baseball for their boys, which the husband spoke up right away and said yes, as one of his Uncle's was a pro MLB guy. The 4 year old is also in the high 90's% for height and is a lefty. He can already make baskets fairly easy at the 10' height with a men's regulation ball. So she has no time for a silly Cards forum even if she had enough interest, which at this stage would be so far down her list, and BBall will be likely the focus for their boys, as the Dad played D1, and the Mom was a 1000 pt. scorer in both HS and close to that also in College.
The other niece from STL family lives in Tennessee, and their 2 kids are very active in sports but at an age where the parents are constantly getting them to their multiple interest while they also have jobs that require much of their time. The Dad coaches a bunch of his kids teams. There's no time, but they both mainly follow the Cards from a distance, and they'd rank behind the Vols sports and the NFL teams they follow with much more interest. Their 10 yr. old boy is good enough he plays on baseball teams where he's often the youngest, and also is excellent with the piano which he just started a couple years ago.
As for me, heck, even at 68 it often takes bad weather to get me to sit long enough to try and keep up with the Cards, and they'd rank behind the Illini and Chiefs in my current interest of pro sports.
What? The Illini don't qualify as Pro sports................. well, maybe not, but there is some big time money involved, so the lines a little blurrier than it used to be.

People who are retired have more time for this kind of stuff.
