What's your point? They shouldn't trade Donovan? The White Sox are bad? They didn't get a good return for Eaton? Do you have a point or are you just being dense?Carp4Cy wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:53 pmIf the return on the Eaton trade was that good, the CWS sure didn’t capitalize on it.C-Unit wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:48 pmI've made a few posts on here saying i think this could go similar to when the White Sox traded Adam Eaton years ago. Maybe Donovan represents a similar opportunity to find a glitch in the market and get a return even bigger than what the player is really worth. Right player, right time.
That judging a trade is not about who receives more Trade Value. The point of the trade is about wins on the field in the following years. Both from the immediate trade as well as from other moves that follow that trade and react to it or build upon it. That’s what makes a good GM, not whether he wins a single trade.C-Unit wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 22:06 pmWhat's your point? They shouldn't trade Donovan? The White Sox are bad? That would be the absolute worst move bloom could make with DonovanIdaho Cards wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 22:39 pm Keep Donovan - Pay the man. Especially over the last 5 years. That guy wasn't even trying.82birds wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 22:05 pmthat's a givenJuanAgosto wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:58 pm Let's see what Bloom can receive for Donovan. Hopefully more than Johnny bow ties would have.
If they could sign BD for the next 5 seasons keeping him can make sense. Debatable anyway.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 23:29 pm I'm on the record for extending Donovan. We need good players too. Still, the chance to fix some of our pitching problem, finds me willing to see where a trade takes us. I trust Bloom to make a really good trade to the point I am willing to back off my position.
Just don't screw this one up. If Bloom can really help us, go ahead with a trade. If not, I am sanguine to keep him as an icon. He's a class act.
An icon? That seems a little hyperbolic. He's not going to get a statue. Icon should be reserved for guys like Pujols and Molina.hugeCardfan wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 23:29 pm I'm on the record for extending Donovan. We need good players too. Nothing that says we can’t trade him then pursue him in free agency after 2027. That’d bring back a good player more aligned with our competitive window (hopefully) while also getting the young talent in return.renostl wrote: ↑21 Nov 2025 00:32 amIf they could sign BD for the next 5 seasons keeping him can make sense. It takes both sides to agree though and we aren't on
the inside to know. If his tenure is only the next 2 seasons, it becomes a fairly easy choice
But yeah there's a reason contenders want him.
Guess the decision for me is… Are the Cardinals better off keeping him for 2 years ( thinking he will go to free agency)and then get a draft pick for him OR having him depart NOW and getting a haul fir him .Idaho Cards wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 22:39 pm Keep Donovan - Pay the man. The White Sox got the Nationals 1st(Lucas Giolito), 3rd(Reynaldo Lopez) and 6th(Dane Dunning) prospects. It doesn't matter what happened with them afterwards. It just goes to show what an overpayment for a player of similar value to Donovan looks like. I'd say Donovan is a step below Eaton but the intangibles are very similar.Carp4Cy wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:53 pmIf the return on the Eaton trade was that good, the CWS sure didn’t capitalize on it.C-Unit wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:48 pmI've made a few posts on here saying i think this could go similar to when the White Sox traded Adam Eaton years ago. Was that deal the deal where we traded Alcantara, Gallen + for Marcel Ozuna?ramfandan wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:30 pmCan't recall the deal but some years ago , a big deal went down like this .. The team with a Donovan type was OK with the main guy offered in the trade but for the 2nd best guy the two teams were at odds slightly . The team trading the Donovan requested Player A prospect I will call him .the other team said No, not A but our next guy down on our list we will do . Things were not quite there.82birds wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:23 pmyupramfandan wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:19 pmQuite welcome, Ozzie ! One thing is that with this kind of volume of interest , that certainly drives up the offers from teams as they know they are one of many looking to trade for him . Teams will make offers and then later will 'up the ante' if they feel they need to go a bit higher to get Bloom to swing a deal for him . Bloom in great spot to drive up the bidding as he gets to the final 2 or 3 teams willing to pony up a package.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑20 Nov 2025 21:13 pmThanks for info. Was on MLB Tonight this evening ..
said Donovan has a massive market to the point that it is "as much action in the trade market as any other player in Major League Baseball."
"The question is actually not so much who is in on Donovan, but who is not," Morosi said.
So the Donovan team said OK Here is what we will do .. We MUST have Player A to complete the deal Sooo we will give you a lower prospect to add in the deal . Here is a list of 3 players ( probably like 20th or lower ) , you guys can select any ONE of those 3 guys your choice. The team said OK and the deal got done. Sometimes the deals end that way when you need to break the final logjam.
