Morosi: 'Donovan has huge trade market '

Post by ramfandan »

Was on MLB Tonight this evening ..
said Donovan has a massive market to the point that it is "as much action in the trade market as any other player in Major League Baseball."

"The question is actually not so much who is in on Donovan, but who is not," Morosi said.

Quite welcome, Ozzie ! One thing is that with this kind of volume of interest , that certainly drives up the offers from teams as they know they are one of many looking to trade for him . Teams will make offers and then later will 'up the ante' if they feel they need to go a bit higher to get Bloom to swing a deal for him . Bloom in great spot to drive up the bidding as he gets to the final 2 or 3 teams willing to pony up a package.

The number of teams that would be interested in
Donovan was always believed to be high.
It is good enough to create a consensus on CT.

The bigger Q is the return level and what should be targeted. Should it grow into a even more impacting deal.

Meanwhile Nado doesn’t have this Huge market, and might actually be back despite best efforts.

Can't recall the deal but some years ago , a big deal went down like this .. The team with a Donovan type was OK with the main guy offered in the trade but for the 2nd best guy the two teams were at odds slightly . The team trading the Donovan requested Player A prospect I will call him .the other team said No, not A but our next guy down on our list we will do . Things were not quite there.

So the Donovan team said OK Here is what we will do .. We MUST have Player A to complete the deal Sooo we will give you a lower prospect to add in the deal . Here is a list of 3 players ( probably like 20th or lower ) , you guys can select any ONE of those 3 guys your choice. The team said OK and the deal got done. Sometimes the deals end that way when you need to break the final logjam.

At the beginning of the offseason I wanted to keep Donovan but this type of talk is sure exciting. Ready to be impressed with the return.

Donovan is a winning ballplayer on an already good to great team --- he is not a difference maker on an average team, couple that with 2 years of control and anyone who thinks they have a shot to win in the next two years will be bidding. Good luck BD!!

In a similar scenario, I would rather see what it takes to get choice A over getting choice B. Add to it.
Get the quality that projects the highest with what is probably the teams best trade chip over quantity.

He may well be some teams B or C plan.
Might take a while.
Best bet a contender that needs to set aside funds for
other needs.

I've made a few posts on here saying i think this could go similar to when the White Sox traded Adam Eaton years ago. Maybe Donovan represents a similar opportunity to find a glitch in the market and get a return even bigger than what the player is really worth. Right player, right time.

Don't see it .. Nado's agent has agreed with Cardinals that best fit is somehwere else .
In fact ..Joel Wolfe, his agent and a good one, has been actively speaking with interested teams (including the Phillies, Dodgers, and Red Sox) to find a suitable destination for his client. Cardinals are permitting Wolfe to strike a landing spot for Arenado that is to his liking.
Remember the final game last year, Arenado by mutual agreement was given the standing ovation farewell at the beginning of the game when he was removed from the starting lineup . That was Nado's thank you and good-bye wave to the Cardinal fans. His agent will find a team for him .

If the return on the Eaton trade was that good, the CWS sure didn’t capitalize on it.

Let's see what Bloom can receive for Donovan. Hopefully more than Johnny bow ties would have.

I'd be surprised if NA is the first choice in any of those 3 teams.
Donovan may even be a higher choice at 3B for some.
This will take a long time if his target teams are top tier.
