I don't know. I'm starting to think about it, but is an OFer with an average 122 OPS+ in the years after his PED suspension worth $32.5 million over the next 9 years? That's a lot of money for a guy who isn't your prototypical slugger in the corner.
Without the PEDs is he going to age poorly? Arenado started his decline at 32. Would we end up in a situation like that, but for more money, for 4 years of that contract?
Don't get me wrong, the guy is a very good player, but is he the type of hitter to build a lineup around? Low .800 OPS and 122 OPS+ post PED average? I think it's debatable. I can see both sides of that argument.

The Padres are NOT a big market team. Ocean to the west. Mexico to the South, Desert to the East and LA to the North. Word from Friends in Socal are that the Padres are hemorrhaging money.

Will the Cardinals be next?
Don’t think so but it will be interesting to watch Padres. All these owners supposedly not making money, so who buys?
Padres in big market with high payroll. I saw $2 billion in headline.
I’m interested to watch.
The Twins were for sale. The Pohlad family could not find a buyer at the price that they wanted. I suspect the values listed for MLB franchises are inflated.
DeWitt killed the value of the Cardinala kind of like how Mo killed the value of so many prospects that he held too long.

A hedge fund multi-billionaire bought the Mets. $300 million payroll is pocket change for him. Not sure how many people like that want to own a baseball team. I think I'd prefer to remain rich and anonymous.

They might be over inflated. Clubs may be losing money but the owners have shot tvemselves in the foot with labor agreements. 2027 may fix that problem.
