It was his heel bothering him.
His heel didn’t cause him to swing at terrible pitches, which he did. A lot.
oh...
??? Do you disagree?

He is what I have always said he was. He is a quality fourth outfielder on a contending team. He is a starter in left or right field on an average or below average team. He is not worth a contract as a starter, but would be worth a contract as a fourth outfielder on a contending team. In the current situation, you keep him because his value has never been lower. You hope he raises his value and you can deal him to a contending team that could use his services.

Sadly, Nootbar is statistically our best outfielder. Probably need to keep him until trade deadline since he's currently injured.

Maybe trade Arenado (no room; eat salary), Gorman (no room), and Burleson (who should bring back some value)

2024-2025 production

fWAR/600PA / fWAR total / Player
4.05 4.8 DH/C Herrera - keep; move to catcher part time
3.63 7.1 SS Winn - keep
3.52 5.4 1B Contreras - keep
3.08 6.0 3B Donovan - keep; but available for an overpay offer. Replace with Fermin/Saggese/Prieto if traded.
2.24 4.0 Arenado - fading; now blocking Wetherholt; - eat salary and trade low
1.98 2.0 C Pages - keep
1.52 2.5 RF Nootbar - keep; at least until trade deadline if Baez or Walker is knocking
1.47 2.8 LF Burleson - keep but available to trade high; sign RH free agent OF if traded.
1.26 1.3 CF Scott - keep but let Church and Torres try to take his job
0.86 0.5 Saggese - goes to AAA. First guy up in case of injuries
0.07 0.1 Gorman - trade low. Wetherholt is a much better 2B
-1.99 -1.9 Walker - goes to AAA until trade deadline. Church has much higher floor.

Rookie starter
2B Wetherholt

Bench guys
Crooks C
Church OF - replaces Burleson for defense; Nootbar to LF; Church in RF
Fermin 2B/SS/3B
Torres 2B/OF

noot should have been traded after his first real season because his value was never higher and that value never matched his play the rest of his time in st louis.

The team needs to maximize value everywhere. In Noots case his value is at a low ebb. Better to keep him and hope he comes back next year and plays well. Either good enough and stays healthy so you can think of him as a starter going forward or at least enough to create some trade value.

We use our hindsight all the time to see and say these things, but it is painful in the moment to do. Alec Burleson today is case in point.

Moreover, what can you do with a broken Noot? Evidently plant fertilizer is his key to recovery.

Time and resources have been spent to get to this point. Time for him and his green (?) glove to move on.

DFA, he's not worth much. Mo did his magic by over promising what Noot could bring to the table. It's what Mo did best.

Noot’s nickname ought to be Can’t Get Right because he can’t and never will get right. He’s a dime a dozen. Fool’s gold. An accident waiting to happen.

We had a POBO who needed success badly. He wasn’t about to trade anyone who could fog a mirror.
