Seriously. What can you do with a Noot? Can you play him? He’s not a bad player. He’s also not really a good player. For all the promising metrics he started with (and still possesses?) he has never developed into anything better than he started as. His stats season by season are eerily similar. He’s just older and more expensive. At some point you have stop digging to find a metric you like and ask, does he pass the eye test?

But C. Bloom won't deal him this winter given his heel issue has brought down his trade value.

The move is to re-hab him....get him back sometime in April/May....hope he has a couple solid months...then deal him.

I'm not a Noot hater like too many in here, when he's healthy he's a solid #2/3 OFer (2021-2024: .774 OPS) and a very good lead-off man (career .341 OB%).

The problem (obviously) is he can't stay healthy which will lower his trade value even after he's back from his heel issue in 2026.

I don't think he's much concern.

1. Trade him in a package?
2. Trade him on his own?
3. Keep him? Outfields need starters and backups.

It's not like he's truly blocking any prospects.

Let him hang around. Maybe he does well and can be flipped. Maybe not..

I think the best option and hope would be to keep him and hope and pray he stays healthy through the deadline. Any deal you would make now, would just be robbing yourself of value.

I hear what you are saying, and that might be the best way to deal with the situation, but I wouldn't completely give up on moving him. Yes, you are selling low, but if you get a return you are happy with- dont' wait.

Here is an example: Suppose the reporting of the Rangers interest in Nootbaar is legitimate. In another post I talked about moving Willson Contreras to the Rangers for Alejandro Rosario. He is coming off Tommy John surgery and last pitched at AA. He doesn't need a 40-man roster spot yet. He strikes out 13.1 per nine innings and only walks 1.3 per nine. Yes, Nootbaar has injury risk and might not be ready to start the season. The same could be said for their guy. For reference, even now, after his surgery Nootbaar has a BTV of 11.3 and Rosario is at 7.9. If that is selling low, then I would be ok with that. There could be other examples where while you might be able to get a better return later, you are satisfied with the return today.

I think the best option and hope would be to keep him and hope and pray he stays healthy through the deadline. Any deal you would make now, would just be robbing yourself of value.

Hanging on to players whose trade value is low because their trade value is low is not a recipe for success IMO.

Gorman’s trade value is low because he has played poorly.

Walker’s trade value is low because he has played poorly.

Nootbaar’s trade value is low because despite all the hype about swing speed, hard-hit %, etc, he has played poorly besides being hurt a lot. Plus the fact that he’s clueless on the bases doesn’t help his value.

At some point you need to admit the player is not who you thought they were or would become.
