All this does is take your skill out of much of the game. As they hold positions while their little hard worker plays his game with the puck along the boards. Hate saying it like this. But it's Dumb.

No, because the mucker/grinder looks for the more skilled guy on each line;

Sundqvist & Bjugstad look for Holloway
Suter & Walker look for Buchnevich
Schenn & Joseph look for Kyrou
Thomas, Neighbours & Snuggerud don't defer to anyone and shoot when they can

Need a defensively responsible guy on each line...good idea.

In a summer interview, Buch mentioned that they have one guy per line designated for dirty work. He said he was forced into that role on the line with Thomas-Kyrou, but that it isn't a role he really likes.

To play the game the Blues want to play, they have to all be working together, and that means a winger will have to rotate back when a defenseman pinches or carries the puck in.
