Re: LUCIC
It appears he can no longer skate at an NHL level. In that case, I don't understand the logic of keeping a guy with past substance and behavior issues essentially as the team's enforcer. Seems like a problem waiting to happen for the player and team.

Re: LUCIC
Just a few stats ... the number of fights in the NHL has dropped by 200% since the peak of 1.2 fights per game in the early 2000s.
Recently the rate has been hovering at approximately 1 fight every 4 games ... between .20 and .26 fights per game.
Last season the teams that had the most fights, the Predators finished 14th in the West, and the Bruins who finished tied for 15th in the East.
Those stats are from a quick AI inquiry.
In the interview on Cam and Strick podcast aired this week Monty said that the team developed a pack mentality last season. Toughness always helps. They aren't a physically intimidating team, but they were physical enough to beat the Jets. It wasn't a lack of toughness that cost them at the end.

Army said it pretty flat out, there aren't many teams that can shove the Blues around, but there are 3-4 that aren't necessarily worried about the physical side when playing the Blues. Lucic is there to possibly cover those basis. If that is the truth, then playing Lucic sparingly like in a Reeves role isn't the worst thing, assuming Lucic is on board with that and he isn't a Reeves level anchor. If the Blues are going to be a playoff team, they have 2 challenges in front of them. Getting the young guys to make big strides, and getting the team to be relatively healthy at the end. I don't want to hear that Schenn had to play in the playoffs again with broken ribs because he's our wake the F up guy on the ice. Tucker seemed to take some of that responsibility last year, but we don't need to see his face caved in either. And Neighbours is approaching the too valuable to risk injury category.Mr.Snuggleupagus wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 18:00 pmThey're all small dudes (6'1 200ish); and the Captain doesn't need to be fighting much, Neighbours doesn't need to risk an injury in a fight (concussion, broken hand, etc). They need a large heavyweight or at least a capable middleweight.
This is the most reasonable thoughts on Lucic. He isn’t taking anybody’s spot. He would be the last man on the roster, probably instead of a Joseph/Texier. Unless he is way more than we think, he’s would play 25-30 games a year. Guys like Wilson, Olivier, Rempe, Stanley etc run amuck and we don’t need Schenn and Neighbours stepping up and taking that on.
The Blues could get through 60 games without him but the other 20, Lucic would have a role. 25 games, 10-12 minutes a game, would be a good break for our stand up, middle weight guys.
If Lucic doesn’t have that game in him any more, I would hope Army finds someone else for that role.

Re: LUCIC
He might not be able to skate that well anymore, but he still skates better than Chris Thorburn did and he knows a little more about positioning and how to bury chances than Thorburn and they kept him around for a 50 game season (and he's still here).

You think chirping someone spending money foolishly versus chirping a fellow NHLer about spousal abuse and/or alcoholism is comparable? You understand life and NHL camaraderie so well "lol".theograce wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 19:08 pmLike when Tkachuk recently mocked Kane on the ice for his money stuff?Mr.Snuggleupagus wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 19:05 pmNHL players respect fellow NHLers private lives, no one is gonna do that.

Re: LUCIC
Yes of course. It was a very painful time for Kane. After the game Kane publicly said Tkachuk crossed the line. He was very upsetMr.Snuggleupagus wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 19:18 pmYou think chirping someone spending money foolishly versus chirping a fellow NHLer about spousal abuse and/or alcoholism is comparable? Tom Wilson had 4 or 5 fights in '24-'25 in 81 games (depending on the site). Nathan Walker had 5 fights in 73 games. You gotta wonder how many fights Lucic would have in 25 or 30 games most likely playing maybe 10 minutes per game. DA and Monty can decide if that roster spot is worth it.

Rutherford said that the players expressed an interest in adding team toughness in the off-season.b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑24 Sep 2025 19:21 pm Tom Wilson had 4 or 5 fights in '24-'25 in 81 games (depending on the site). If the players were that concerned…I give Army some credit on trying to solve the problem.

They will. There’s a reason they asked Lucic to try out. They must feel there’s a need for his “abilities”. Whatever they decide is fine with me.
