Just what exactly does eating a large chunk of money and moving Arenado accomplish?

A .720 OPS Gorman doesn’t help the team in any way.
I too would like to trade Donovan and Nootbar. Trade Gorman? Only if he's involved in some interesting trade since his value is worth little. Gorman has shown a lot of potential, and he's only 25! But he's giving me Phil Plantier vibes.
But about Arenado...Maybe NA at 3B would be better than Gorman. But trading him and having around 12mil next year to spend on pitching might be the better move. Even if it means Saggese is playing a lot of 3B...

Mixed feelings on Arenado.
Respect for him and I will totally miss seeing him at 3B. I think if healthy he can have some bounce back at the plate in 2026. His contract does come down a bit also.
However....given his age, recent productivity, and $$ it probably makes the most sense to move on!
Unfortunately the way this has played out I don’t see them getting much in return unless they pay most of the $$.
So...save whatever you can of the $37M owed and move on I guess??

His decline happened before it should have. A decline that severe at 32 is not normal.

If we are going to move on from a HOFer, the plan needs to be to replace his ceiling production from 2022, not his floor. And that would have to come from outside the org. So if we’re stuck paying him anyway we might as well keep him until we’re ready to make the next big investment for a star third base in 2027.

Agree 100%. Gorman is NOT a major league level 3rd baseman. And his hitting hasn’t justified keeping him in the lineup.

The last 2 years he's been where he should have at the very end of the contract. They won't get anything for him. Think Dexter Fowler.

If they aren’t willing to fire Oli because they would have to pay him his microscopic salary regardless(that’s the rumor anyway) why do you think they would pay a majority or all of Arenados contract to play somewhere else?

I think there is a misunderstanding that the organization is as dissatisfied with Oli as some fans are. I don't think that is the case. It's not the salary.

This is how we waste so many seasons. It’s not because of proven vets like Gray and Willson and NA blocking talent. It’s because we give 162 game tryouts to youngish JAG “prospects” over and over to see what we have and can’t just make a quicker decision and move on from relative failure.
