Arenado postgame : "I am anticipating not coming back here"

Post by ramfandan »

In case you can't get access to the locker room video , he stated he understands the organization needs to grow and go with some of the younger guys ..there is no doubt I am in the way of that .. said he enjoyed the times playing at Busch especially the packed stadiums .. said playing with a lot of empty seats is not as fun adding that is not the fans fault , it's ours.. we didn't win enough.
A highlight was playing with Albert for Pujols return year.

Said I just can't pick any team ..someone has to want me.. I think I can still play well for someone.. will sit down with my agent and family ..
last line was 'I am anticipating probably not coming back here.

Sounds the most reasonable he's ever been, and just when I was actually wondering if it might be nice to keep his still-joyous defense around for the next two years...

I’m not sure they will be able to move him.

I wonder if the Cardinals will be desperate enough to pay most the salary. It's a true sunken cost afterall.

Gosh, I am sure all have great compassion toward N/A.
Must be tough for him to not have fun "performing" for 30,000 empty seats.
Poor guy.

Think Bloom will pay a substantial amount as the more he pays , A. the more suitors he could have and B. the more a team pays of a high salary the better the return in personnel. Now the return for Arenado will be minimal but at least the caliber of prospect will be a bit better the more Bloom /DeWitts pay. It sure is better than paying all his $$ by DFA route (which would be last resort ).

Arizona will be talking to the Cardinals about a 3B.
But which one?
Several other teams will as well - with exactly the same question in play.

Just my 2 cents - it would be idiotic to eat a large chunk of Arenado’s salary to get rid of him, only to give the 3B job to Gorman.

I hope there is a better plan than that.

The primary motive should be moving Arenado.

Who he’s replaced with in the near term shouldn’t be something to worry about.

I hope they trade him even if it means eating half of his salary.

It's not to give the job to Gorman it's to give the job to either Gorman, Donovan or JJ... trading Arenado is virtually mandatory just to get some badly needed roster flexibility with all the redundant IFs they have.

I am not sure that your ... only to give the 3B job to Gorman comment necessarily is part of that .

Bloom could be thinking that JJ Wetherholt may be the 3rd baseman (thogh personallly I always felt 2nd base may be best long term position ) .
It remains to be seen what Bloom thinks of Gorman as part of Cardinals future . He may or may not be a Cardinal .

Anyone is movable the question is just how much money they have to eat in order to get it done. Plenty of teams would sign up for 2yrs of a veteran gold glove 3B who can still run into 15 homers with a league average bat.

Personally I would trade Donovan, Nootbaar, and Gorman.
That gives LF to Herrera, RF to Burleson, 3B to Arenado for 2 years, and 2B to Wetherholt.

And I don’t see any good reason to keep Gorman around. He has been nothing short of terrible and it’s no longer a small sample size.

Just what exactly does eating a large chunk of money and moving Arenado accomplish?

A .700 OPS Arenado at least helps due to defense.

A .720 OPS Gorman doesn’t help the team in any way.

I have no issue w/NADO.

Age related decline at the plate is simply a fact in a players life.

Good guy, gave it his all and wore the uniform proudly.

I hope he gets his shot w/a playoff team in 2026.

I said last off-season I'll say it again. If they're trading Arenado I think they'd be best to use this trade to get back a major league SP. Even another Erick Fedde type. This is your chance to pull a major leaguer for major leaguer trade and help the SP depth for 2026. We need the depth at SP alot more than we do in the very crowded infield. If you go for a prospect I can't imagine you'd get back anything more than like a Juan Yepez type of prospect... a low level, low ceiling lottery ticket that will take 5 years to make it if he even does.
