Redo the '08 draft (Top 5 pick!)

I think I'd go Josi in total hindsight obviously no GM was taking Josi that high but looking back man he's had a good career

I was just glancing at the '08 draft class which was pretty good for dmen. If you could re draft would you take

#15 Karlsson #2 in Points (by draft year)
#27 Carlson #4 in Points
#38 Josi #5 in Points

over AP (#4)??


Of course Doughty (#2) and Bogosian (#3) were not options. Just curious amid our constant barrage or "Top 5" non sense when in reality by draft class it often doesnt matter

First I wouldn't take defense with a 4.
But in this scenario I take the two-way guy Petro whose potential is high on both sides of the ice.

I think where, and wants needed, plays bigger then prospect skill. When it comes to early nhl development, that leads to lifelong skill.

The top 5 forwards from that draft are Stamkos(#1 in overall production that year), Eberle(#3 in production), Josh Bailey(#8), Adam Henrique(#9) and Gustav Nyqvist(#10).

It was an atrocious year for forwards(Nikita Filatov was the second forward taken). Sucked for goalies also(Holtby, Markstrom and Jake Allen are the top 3 from that class).

Looks real different in hindsight.
Knowing what is known. Sure defense. But I'd look hard for a deal that would work.

I don't particularly look for offense from defense. So the defender I'd be looking for would and could be found later in a draft.

To be honest. If I wanted a guy to play offense while in a defensive position. I'd train a guy who plays offense.
It's not like his defense would be so much worse then almost anyone playing in that position (offense defender) right now.
