He's in a drive thru somewhere with a jacked up dodge or f250 I'm sure
Possibly a dually?
Yeah maybe so. It would be pretty cool to have a dually with enough power to smoke a set of double tires wouldn't it. I wonder if that exists.
Although I can't say for sure, if it's possible it very likely exist. Maybe going to tractor pull type events would prove it.
Hmm, I'll search on youtube and see if I find anything.
These are the things we need the internet for

This is not a dually but pretty awe inspiring, been one of my favorite car videos on YouTube forever

My #1

Z. Gallen/30 yrs old

Gallen from 2019 - 2024:

143 GS
3.29 ERA
1.13 WHiP
9.8 SO9

Having a rough 2025 may have brought his asking price down to Dewitt level?

Since 8/1/25':

7 GS
2.20 ERA
1.05 WHiP

Take that Mikolas/Fedde ($25M) money off the books and re-cycle it on Gallen!

Then use trade chips (Donny/Noot/Burleson/Catchers) to land a decent #3.

Gallen
Gray
Trade
Libby
MacG

"Q" and Doyle on the runway ready to step in when needed!

I could see Gallen as a reasonable target.
FA who obviously has ties to the Cardinals.
His age makes sense and he has had some quality success.
His asking price is obviously the kicker but he doesn’t figure to be in the $30M range?

Taking it as a given that they're absolutely not going to spend big money on a SP, I think OP's targets are exactly the types of pitchers Bloom needs to find this offseason.

Ryan especially can eat innings next year while he's pitching his way back into effectiveness post-TJ. Then he can be ready to settle into 2/3 territory in 2027.

I'm sure there are other guys out there with similar talent/situations but I haven't had the chance to research them, so I appreciate OP putting in some legwork.

Of course, now we don't have a Dave Duncan to really work his magic, but I can't think of a time in the past 30 years where we've gone out and signed a big fish SP and it working out. Leake and Matz weren't big fishes, but were paid as such, and I don't think either really worked.
Chris Carpenter comes to mind. We signed him after surgery, and he sat out the first year as I recall.

I love all the guessing, no matter what we should have fun offseason. I dont seem them going back up to say 180 mil, but very easily could see 120-140 again. Which gives us room to play and our books get even better in 27 so I dont see why a cease/gallen/valdez should be off limits. Just one of those guys and I keep seeing bader as a perfect fit. right handed guy who hits lefties to rotate with Scott, noot etc. Nothing crazy but fits our current need until Baez is ready or walker figures his [shirt] out.

For me I wanna see one of Cease/valdez/gallen probably in that order
Cease
Gray
Lib
McGreevy
Mathews

Start walker in AAA

trade one of Herrera, burly, noot, donnie

Sign a right handed vet outfielder (willi castro? Bader?)
Tons of bullpen free agents so I shoot for one or two one year contracts again still have a solid BP with flexibility at deadline. This should get close to 3rd wild card and look even better in 27

It really needs to be one of those two camps this winter. Pick a direction and commit. If you want to move redundant players and get prospects that align with our window opening in 2027 or 2028 then these targets make sense.

If you want fans to come back in 2026 then take payroll back to 2023 or 2024 levels and sign Cease or King or Suarez and trade for Alcantara or Pablo Lopez, and then sign a bat or two (while still moving some redundant players). It is possible to spend your way out of this in the short term, but I don't think ownership has any appetite for that given their actions and comments recently.
I agree. If DeWitt wanted to open the checkbook, they could have a potential playoff team in 2026. But all indications are he won't. So build for the future. Just dont half-(donkey) both at the same time. Yes, attendance will suffer. But that's the result of stick with Mozeliak for too long.

They’ve never signed a big fish SP.

The closest they came was when Mozeliak thought he was getting ready to sign David Price.

And Mozeliak was saved from himself by the Red Sox, just like with Heyward and the Cubs.

So Mozeliak’s biggest 2 FA attempts were as putrid as the middling FA’s he actually signed.

That's exactly who I had in mind.
