Pitching targets for next year
River Ryan with Dodgers. Coming off TJ surgery and Dodgers are loaded with starting pitchers. Was one of their top pitching prospects until surgery. He’s 27 so not young but still has 6 years of control. Has pitched well in the majors for a short stint until his injury. Dodgers could use a lh bat so Nootbaar would interest them.
Chase Hampton with the Yankees. Was their top pitching prospect with a fast track to the majors until sidelined with TJ this Spring. He has been passed by at least 5 other young pitchers in the Yankees system so he should be available. Another power pitcher like Ryan with the upside of a #2 starter. Yankees will be in the market for a lh reliever so JoJo would have appeal to them.
I think both of these pitchers would fit the Cards timetable as they could ease them back into starting roles. Also Cards have expendable assets to acquire them.

Somewhere (probably at a Taco Bell), Lance Lynn is checking his phone for any new calls.

This is the type of targets they will probably have. Don't see them chasing a Cease or Alcantara. Cheaper, "prove it" guys.

Re: Pitching targets for next year
I wouldn't mind targeting a guy or two like that. We used to do similar stuff all the time.
Of course, now we don't have a Dave Duncan to really work his magic, but I can't think of a time in the past 30 years where we've gone out and signed a big fish SP and it working out. Leake and Matz weren't big fishes, but were paid as such, and I don't think either really worked.

Re: Pitching targets for next year
Maybe we need to go to a six man rotation next year all the time. This would keep innings down
McGreevy and Liberatore
Plus whom.ever else we get or use
I know Gray may not need to keep his innings down
But at times he is getting lit up

Well, we get teased by the idea fairly often, but it never seems to get implemented for any significant period of time.Charles King wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 07:35 am Maybe we need to go to a six man rotation next year all the time. This would keep innings down

It makes sense to me for the pros of the concept, but the cons must still rule the day.

Re: Pitching targets for next year
Yeah maybe so. It would be pretty cool to have a dually with enough power to smoke a set of double tires wouldn't it. I wonder if that exists.JDW wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 07:32 amPossibly a dually?imadangman wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 21:48 pmHe's in a drive thru somewhere with a jacked up dodge or f250 I'm sureDicktar2023 wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 21:20 pm Somewhere (probably at a Taco Bell), Lance Lynn is checking his phone for any new calls.

Although I can't say for sure, if it's possible it very likely exist. Maybe going to tractor pull type events would prove it.imadangman wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 07:57 amYeah maybe so. Hmm, I'll search on youtube and see if I find anything.
Re: Pitching targets for next year
It really needs to be one of those two camps this winter. Pick a direction and commit. If you want to move redundant players and get prospects that align with our window opening in 2027 or 2028 then these targets make sense.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑04 Sep 2025 21:21 pm This is the type of targets they will probably have. If you want fans to come back in 2026 then take payroll back to 2023 or 2024 levels and sign Cease or King or Suarez and trade for Alcantara or Pablo Lopez, and then sign a bat or two (while still moving some redundant players). It is possible to spend your way out of this in the short term, but I don't think ownership has any appetite for that given their actions and comments recently.
