I agree. If Hofer shows improvement over last season, the Blues are sitting in a really good place especially if Ellis can post another .920 plus save percentage in the AHL. (.933 in 3 playoff games to end the season) Nice problem for sure.
Why in the world do you want any kind of goalie "controversy"?

Of course the Blues want the 2 players pushing each other of course the Blues want great goalies everywhere here and Springfield but they don't need a controversy over who is number 1.

I'm assuming you would agree with that?
Right. Goalie competition where each goalie is pushing the other for playing time by performing at the top of their games is what I am envisioning. "Controversy" is not the right word. I was just agreeing with the spirit of the previous post. I stand corrected.

It’s funny that you can’t think this through and develop answers on your own

11. St. Louis Blues
Total points: 88

"The numbers weren't always there last season, but there is no denying the quality of this tandem (I ranked them No. 9 in my personal Super 16), which was middle-third statistically in 2024-25. Jordan Binnington is a big-game goalie (see the 4 Nations Face-Off performance with Canada or the 2019 run to the Stanley Cup) who is hard to beat when he is on. When he's not, Joel Hofer is there to pick up the slack. The 25-year-old played 31 games last season, his second straight with at least 30, and went a career-best 16-8-3 with a .904 save percentage. That's not a bad security blanket at all for the Blues." -- Shawn P. Roarke, senior director of editorial

Not saying they are the best by any stretch but putting them behind Jets, Stars, Rangers, Caps, Devils, Leafs, Lightning, Avalanche, Panthers and Canucks? Come on man! Blues tandem is arguably top 5 to me.
I agree with this statement;

Jordan Binnington is a big-game goalie (see the 4 Nations Face-Off performance with Canada or the 2019 run to the Stanley Cup) who is hard to beat when he is on.

When Jordan is in shape and focused, he's easily a Top 5 in the league, but when he's not it's bad... That said, Jordan going into the playoffs is a good thing to have.

Well…he couldn’t beat a Helly who was trying his hardest to give the Blues the series.

I hope for healthy goalie competition too. Our 1G is a competitive person I expect him to respond to any competition the right way

Exactly. And I want HOFer to believe in his heart that he’s a true #1 and develop that swagger. I want the media to be talking controversy because both guys are playing well. If Hofer is outperforming him, people will be talking about it. Nothing wrong with that

Yes. A controversy in net is scary because of the goalie masks ... Friday the 13th movies. spooky.

Again fine to compete and push but I'll take JB as the clear #1 and Hofer as the clear great #2 for another 5 years, regular season and play off.

A great winning tandem with no controversy about who's who.

There are two kinds of goalie “controversies”

1) Both are playing great and you hope you can keep both happy
2) The #1 is playing badly but the #2 is doing well, so now what do you do?

I think we’re all hoping for Option 1.

I cannot imagine the fanbase at large is all that concerned about the play of the current netminders.

Oh the goaltending is definitely not a worry right now. I think we have a very respectable tandem. Just throwing in my two cents about what sort of "goalie controversy" people in this thread might be talking about.

Lol, this went poorly, so far. On the brightside one would think the save pct will find its norm and given the Blues fairly stingy shots against Wins will at some point follow
