Baez has had one good year between A and AA. I don't look for him to be that good of hitter going forward. I live in the show me state and he needs to show me more next year. He has never hit for average and showed streaks of pop. I dont think he will get the stolen bases he got in the minors as well.
Just keep giving him a chance to answer the questions. He did at A. He has at AA. Give him a chance at AAA. If he can do that, move him up. We don't presently have another outfield prospect like him. I'm pretty sure he'll make the majors. How he does- we'll see. People are understandably excited. It's been awhile since the Cardinals had an OF that does things that stars do- run, hit for power, play good defense, cannon for an arm etc...
He is Cards 11th ranked prospect. He has never hit for average, he has never hit HRs at a good rate, and he had problems with the strike zone before, and has a higher K rate. His speed is not as good as his SBs indicate and his SBs will not translate. He is the 11th ranked Cards prospect behind 3 catchers for a reason. O’Niell, Carlson, Bader had higher prospect status and none of them are around.

AA Springfield is 79-47. I’d look for some of those players to be called up from Memphis sometime in 2026.

What in the world is this statement?

What does AA W/L have to do with call-ups from AAA to MLB?

And what if they aren't. First of all, they have to perform at Memphis. Just admit, this rebuild is going to take years.

Yea, that's why they trade players for minor leaguers as part of the rebuild. It is hard to rebuild and can take several years. But that is what a rebuild is. People are going to need patience.

The Cardinals have half [ashed] it the last few years by refusing to trade certain players and admit that they needed to rebuild. You're not going to get a lot of high end prospects trading rentals or mediocre players like Montgomery, Flaherty, DeJong, Hicks, Helsley, Matz, Maton, etc. So now the rebuild is going to drag out when we could be several years in already.

But I don't think we're going to be as bad off as some think. I don't think we are as bad as some people think this year. I mean, some teams would consider a .500 season pretty good and something to build on. Granted, we're Cardinals fans and should expect winning seasons.

Anyway, we have JJ Wetherholt coming up next year. Maybe we see Mathews as he's looked pretty good. Would be nice to see more of what we've got in Crooks right now so we could maybe feel more comfortable for next year. Then you've got Doyle and some other players possibly making an impact in 2027. We're going to shed a ton of payroll, so with a few additions through free agency, maybe we're a lot better than some people think we might be.

I agree, but why not bring up Wetherholt and play Crooks as much as possible. The failure is waiting for Walker and Gorman to be what the front office thought they would be. Might be time to move on from both and look at some even younger players.

Keep an eye on Mautz - AA Springfield- could be a sleeper - he is beginning to progress nicely after some ups and downs going through the development curve.

I'm with you to an extent on Wetherholt and Crooks. I definitely think Crooks should be getting a lot of playing time right now. A 50-50 split at least.

I want to see Wetherholt as much as anyone, and I was initially really (upset) that they basically said he's not getting called up, but I just don't think the playing time is there, the more that I think about it. I do disagree on Gorman. I want him to get as much playing time as possible. And they clearly want Saggese to get ABs as well, which I understand. And once Donovan and Arenado come back, there's even less opportunity for playing time. So not calling up Wetherholt is the path of least resistance.

But I see your point. If I was done with Gorman and ready to move on, I'd be saying the same thing you are with Wetherholt.

Obviously, CardsBest, because there are some good players on that team (to have that much of a winning record) that may not need a full year at AAA in 2026 before being called up. Some of them have already been mentioned on this thread - Bernal, Mautz, Henderson, Gastelum, etc.

I try to never declare any pitcher before they've seen AAA. AAA is 99 times out of 100 a real road block for pitchers. Where adjusts have to be made, b/c holes are magnified in their arsenal. Graceffo is an excellent example...even McGreevy, though his issues started peaking out in AA.

Sometimes...I'll make a declaration on a reliever or two,....Granillo 3 years ago and Gastelum this year...

No one will debate you on Baez’ struggles prior to this year.

IMO, there are 2 reasons for optimism. New minor league instructors in place this year. Bloom’s guy running the show this year. Maybe they found something. Second, he had handled the promotion to AA well. Has continued the power and cut down the strikeouts.

Dude just turned 22 in June. Let’s see where this goes.

Peterman’s - no amateur on CT really knows what’s going on with our prospects up and down the system.
Only the minor league managers and coaches know, along with Bloom and Cerfolio. Also the traveling position coaches.
Anything on CT is pure conjecture.

When I pointed out what a slug Jake Woodford has been in the Majors, Cranny responded by saying that Woodford started the AAA All-star game 6 years ago.

That’s exactly right, Bomber. It’s why I had high hopes for him at the time. Fairly logical, huh? Amazing that he’s on the Diamondbacks 26 man roster right now.
