Cardinals minor leagues
Question: Do the cardinals have anyone ready in the minors to help the rebuild in 2026?
Re: Cardinals minor leagues
It depends on what time you want them help? Sometime during the season or start the season?
Luis Gastelum is on his way to back of the bullpen duties. He needs to experience some AAA first, and 2026 might be reach for him.
Mathews will probably see the Majors in 2026....he's done rather well in August, and he trusted is Fastball enough in his last start to return to 2024 like Velocity of 94-95mph.
Bryan Torres can play 2B and CF rather well. He'(poop) well in AA and AAA for the Cards.

Fingers crossed on Josh Baez emerging later in 2026 as a RH OF bat.

Re: Cardinals minor leagues
take into account injuries and a couple of players being a coupla years away, it is what it is
the bigger problem is the young players that are already here and not progressing. but it is troubling how little STL has in pitching prospects

Quinn Mathews - for sure. He's been outstanding, but walks a lot of batter.
Under the radar, Ixan Henderson is a really good lefty in AA. He will probably have to pitch in AAA first, but the dude has been lights out for us his whole MiLB career.
Tink Hence & Cooper Hjerpe are good pitching prospects too, but they both got derailed due to injuries. Probably more 2027 players.

That’s the most important question. Also the scariest to consider. Every time (at least most times) I’ve gotten hyped up on a player coming up I end up disappointed. I guess Winn is the exception. I don’t remember exactly when Donovan made his debut but he has been solid. Otherwise I’m struggling to find a successful promotion. So based on experience I’m doubtful. Then again next year would be too soon to totally evaluate.
Is that a sufficient wishy washy answer to your question.

Not trying to rush things, but I'm interested to see how far Liam Doyle progresses next year. Does he make St. Louis?

The problem is it is difficult to rebuild the Major League team and when you also have to rebuild the minor league teams. especially when only about 10 to 15 percent of players who reach the minor leagues actually make it to the majors.

Baez has had one good year between A and AA. I don't look for him to be that good of hitter going forward. I live in the show me state and he needs to show me more next year. He has never hit for average and showed streaks of pop. I dont think he will get the stolen bases he got in the minors as well.

Just keep giving him a chance to answer the questions. He did at A. He has at AA. Give him a chance at AAA. If he can do that, move him up. We don't presently have another outfield prospect like him. I'm pretty sure he'll make the majors. How he does- we'll see. People are understandably excited. It's been awhile since the Cardinals had an OF that does things that stars do- run, hit for power, play good defense, cannon for an arm etc...CardsBest wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 12:13 pmBaez has had one good year between A and AA.
