There’s a universal code, when one division rival wants nothing to do with a player and the other division rival got the younger, better, cheaper version of what you got, it’s a set up for sure failure.
To say WC is the least of the problems because you’ll take his numbers and he’s not the reason this is bad. It’s the pitching. It’s Walker not developing. It’s Noot. It’s whatever else. Yeah, that’s all true and this isn’t about singling out a single reason this has all gone so bad. It’s a very thin level of critical analysis to ignore how devastatingly dumb it was to sign this guy.
I hope for the strong majority of people in Cardinal Nation who applauded this signing and even stuck by it through the transition from catcher to first, stating he would improve his bat without catching duties (didn’t happen), can now be honest about what a mess this is.
A very similar mess to Dexter Fowler, who also wasn’t wanted by the cubs or really anyone else in mlb, much like WC, with a very similar support structure.

He has this thread and the Pallante one going. I seem to remember this same procession a few months ago under a different account.AnExParrot wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 07:41 am A regular poster so afraid of losing credibility they create a fresh account to present this steaming hot take.![]()

Boston won a WS with Mike Napoli hitting cleanup. They did have a bigger bat infront of him though.OldRed wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 08:15 amHe has been a bigger asset this year. But he not the big bat a good team needs. He would be an excellent #6 hitter with a good team around him.ecleme22 wrote: ↑28 Aug 2025 08:00 am WC has been an asset in all three years as a Cardinal.
And his move to 1B has been very successful. Plus, he has avoided injury.
Anyone who is comparing WC with Fowler contract or implying that WC is a cancer because the Cubs weren't in a place to give him 80mil, obviously has issues with WC in 'different' ways.
