Or exercising your NTC to stay with a team that has zero chance to win anything, because you feel comfy in a city

Gray, Willy, Nado...loser mentalities. No wonder this team is in the dumpster, these are supposed to be the higher paid experienced veterans??

They love it here. Cash their checks and no expectations or pressure to win whatsoever. So yes the team is packed with players that feel that winning is 3rd or 4th on the list of priorities.

Actually, because of the Cardinals history and legacy, there’s a lot of pressure to win here.

That is a serious question .. then let's pose that same scenario to the fans .
Which is more important ..rooting for a team that is on hard times that plays in the city where you reside and have followed because you are comfy and proud of the 'birds on the bat '
OR for the fan to start rooting for a team that has a strong chance to win the World Series , possibly hopping from team to team every so often.
That argument isn't even close to the same.
No even close.

Who is exerting the pressure?

The front office? doesn’t seem like it

The fans….???? .when the last time the players were booed for poor performance ??

The media?? Well, maybe, between all the fawning and gushing…

Respect for the game??? Well, maybe between the farewell tours and individual players chasing meaningless, personal stats…

Playing in STL is a rocking chair…

Is that why they extended Oli after a 20 games under .500 finish in 2023? They actually said they didn't want him to feel any pressure

Wasn't that the reasoning behind the Carpenter extension as well. Didnt want him to feel added pressure. That worked out well.

Has nothing to do with ownership or management. Has to do with whose shoulders they’re standing on - Stan, Gibby, Lou, Ozzie, Albert, etc.

You think today’s players feel pressure because of the success of players from 50 years ago?

Arenado tried to help by producing a list of six teams, which is about 20% of all teams. Ignorant posters who should report to Arsenal street think he is the bad guy. Foolish Mo leaks a story about heavily contaminated carcinogenic air and water Houston wanting him when they were not on the list.

Look at the players that we put on the field .. not one star...like at the stands...people are staying home because it's been to hot???🫨 or due to the failure of Mo-ran.

Sure. They talk about legacy, tradition, and the franchise being one of the most storied franchises in MLB history. They know when they come in that the Cards have won the 2nd most World Series and have had only 2 losing seasons in the last 25 years. That’s a lot of pressure to perform and win. Have you ever walked through the hallway leading to the locker room?

All of that SHOULD be true, but you can’t leave ownership and management out of the equation. They clearly no longer have interest in living up to that standard.

They might talk about it, right before they sign somewhere else because they were offered a dollar more…

Today’s players are mercenaries……you think they pass on big contracts because of something Musial did 60 years ago

The entire industry has changed dramatically……and there no nothing in the past that is applicable to today’s game…

This clinging to the past does nothing to enhance the present or future of the club..

Let it go.

Just parroting what a number of players have said about the Cardinals when they signed as free agents, were traded here, or were drafted. Staying within the theme of the thread.

Clinging to the past is all this organization can do to distract us from the inept present and uninspiring future.
