Well, Erik Gustafsson is a veteran and LD with only 25/26 left on a $2M contract. But none of that matters because it doesn't help the Blues. He'd be a nice addition if Faulk remained on the team (to back up the 3rd pair). But why would the Blues give up a RD for a aged LD?

Plus, Detroit would have to be one of the teams not on Faulk's no-trade list. Something people always forget about.

It's Aug 1st, so we have to go through all the trade scenarios I guess.

He is really important. Not a perfect player--but darn good. He's needed here.
I wouldn't trade him this late in the summer. He would need to be replaced. Some journeyman D won't cut it.
Definitely better off with him. We have enough draft picks in my mind.

If Yzerman thinks that Faulk is the answer to their horrid defense then he should be cast in the reboot of LA Law as Benny.

I'd be super impressed with Army if he could make that deal happen.
Indeed. Not just a first rounder, but a project middling first.

I'd be all over that, but then I guess Kessel would be the 3rd RHD, which goes against the compete now mantra.

Still, ain't gonna happen

what a silly prediction but if they traded us a first round pick for Faulk in any year that is a huge win for the Blues

Yeah take the deal, say thank you, and sign David Savard for a year.

Our Blues finally figured they had a critical lack of RH shots both on O and D and in the minors as well, so now let's quickly trade one away.

I would happily make that trade regardless of how badly we lack RD. Find a way to trade a few assets for Bo Byram. Yes I know he just signed and he plays LD but he also plays RD and he could for 1 year and than if or when Cam leaves that he could flip back to left side. This give mailloux 1year at 3rd pair to grow and then maybe he ll be a 2nd pair RD. Or maybe Jirichek will be ready.

This trade would make no sense. Blues could do the same thing at the trade deadline this year. Why do this now verse playing out the first half of the season and see where the chips are falling first. Doing it now means they are giving up on this year after being one of the top 2 teams in the NHL the second half last year.

BluesDom is a classic 1st-grade Barbie-dresser. He sees shoes on the Barbie, and that is his cue and license to be happy. He gives ZERO thought to whether the shoes are good enough to attract Stanley Cup.

The truth of the matter is that the Blues do have a lot of prospects in the pipeline, but we are in need of a 2C and elite defense. We have 2 prospects that MAY POSSIBLY FILL these roles, and this is a BIG BIG MAYBE.

Is this 1st round pick a top 5?
We only do top 5 picks round here.

I would make that trade everyday of the week. There is no way the Wings give up a first for Faulk. At the end of the season people were talking like the Blues would have to give up a first just to move Faulk's contract. Look at his numbers the past 2 years,he was known for his offense - last year 4 goals -he is no better than a 3rd pair dman-- look at his give away total, game seven against the Jets-- last minute of play just keep the puck tied up in corner,no he tries to back hand the puck out, that didn't work. how many times trying to clear did he shoot it over the boards, getting a penalty at a bad time. He is JAG - for a 6.5 million cap hit you can sign a JAG just like him for half the money. And last I do think he would approve a trade, he would be closer to his Minnesota base where he is from and lives in the off season.
